Chapter 29

I felt the darkness surround me like a blanket, I felt no pain just comfort and relief, at first the silence was welcome, but soon I felt weighed down, I couldn’t move, talk, make any sound whatsoever. For several days this continued the deafening silence driving me mad, until soon the darkness evaporated, light began filtering into the room, an even brighter light shone through like a beacon, pulling me forward, as I unsteadily got to my feet, the weakness rushed through me, I gradually followed the light feeling a little like Dorothy following the yellow brick road home.

Pretty soon the scene around me dissolved, shifting into a room, I saw Sky sitting holding a girl’s hand, rage and jealousy tore through me as I made to go attack, until I noticed how Sky looked, sadness tore at my heart he looked like he hadn’t slept or eaten in days, his hair was dishevelled and his cheeks hollowed out, and I’m pretty sure he whiffed just a bit, following his hand to look at the girl, I breathed in a sharp breath out of shock, there lying on the bed with tubes coming out of her was me, which kind of didn’t make sense was I having an out of body experience or was I dead, how come Nia hadn’t healed me? Speaking of Nia I hadn’t heard from her in days, since the night of the battle, I called to her in my mind but she was silent, I was getting really worried now, the weakness that I had felt beforehand was creeping up on me and settling in, I felt my body sag while I continued to call for Nia, for anyone, as I faded back into unconsciousness, I saw a tear streak down Sky’s cheek, and my heart broke just that little bit more.

When I next opened my eyes I was sitting in a field surrounded by beauty and brightness, the rays of the sun reflecting of the lake that sat situated in the middle of the field I seemed to be in, the birds chirped and flew around while all kinds of other woodland creatures pranced about in happiness, sitting up I noticed I was wearing a white dress and I appeared to be healthy, “I think she’s waking up” I could hear muffled voices, I sharply turned in the direction the sound was coming from and gasped in shock, there in front of me stood my parents, before I could control my body I found myself barrelling into my dad sending us both sprawling, on the floor, the melodic laughter my parents let loose was music to my ears, I engrained the sound in my heart, tears were streaming down my face and I saw the same look mirrored on both of my parents faces, my mother helped me up and drew me tight to her, “what’s going on, am I dead is that why I am here with you now?” I asked them both, but they didn’t answer me, they merely looked over my shoulder.

Turning in the direction that they were looking in I saw the Moon Goddess approaching a serene smile lit upon her face, “My child I am glad to see that you are finally awake, we were all worried about you” she gave me a reproachful look, I was confused, was I dead or wasn’t I? seeing my expression understanding came to her, “you’re not dead my child, to all on the outside world you are in a coma, your rib punctured your lung, and the blood slowly filled it suffocating you, had you not continued to fight it would have taken less time to recover, but your blood was pumping the more you moved your body filling your lugs much more quickly, had your wolf not been as strong as she is you might not have made it through, she is currently in a deep sleep doing all she can to help you mend I nodded in understanding, my head spinning with all the information.

“So what is happening why am I here?” I asked looking between all of them, the Moon Goddess smiled, “I wanted to thank you for all that you have done, she said to me, the time of the rogues has gone, they have not been annihilated like most would have done, but they are not as much of a risk as they were before, when I gave you this task to complete Kadie I had no foresight into the end result I could not predetermine how things would end, and what course of action you would take, the fact that you went into battle thinking not of the lives you might take, but the lives you might save make you and your wolf rare and special in nature, I entrusted into you an important task and it is one you have carried out beyond all my expectations, on top of that you have managed to unite the packs and bring peace where it has been lost, I am truly thankful and proud my child” I blushed from her compliments causing my parents to chuckle, my eyes lingered on them both for a moment, before turning back to the Moon Goddess, “as a mark of recognition and reward for all that you have helped to achieve for the wolf world, I bestow on you and your wolf the mark of the Peacekeeper, you will be recognised by all who see you, the bringer of peace, it is your job to aid all those who need help and support and provide guidance to all who seek refuge, you belong to all Kadie, you serve all wolves, just as all wolves serve you, the role of Peacekeeper was extinguished along with the royals, but the night before the battle and the allegiance that was granted to you in the presence of the moon allowed for the title to be restored and gifted to you, I have no doubt in my mind that you will be a great leader, and I look forward to the great things we will see from you and your young.” I smiled at her, “thank you, I am honoured you thought I was worthy, I will do my best to perform my role” I bowed my head to her, and watched as she faded in the air.
