The Dulcet Duet

Hayley:

I was looking forward to seeing Jenna again. That's all I could think about as I was getting ready for our set. I played some Tonight Alive songs as I put my make-up on and when I did my vocal scales to warm-up I did "Je-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-na" over and over. Once Taylor and Jeremy had gotten back to get ready for the show I stopped, but she was still in my thoughts; that accent, her blue eyes, blond hair, the 5 inch height difference, she was so tall.

"Hayley come on. We need to go start setting up." Taylor said as he and Jeremy got off the bus.

I followed them to the stage. Man Overboard had just finished up their set and we gave them all a high five as they got off the stage. We had to get through sound check quickly, not the usual couple of hours we had to relax and perfect everything like we had for our headlining tours. the closer it got to the time for us to start the more fans were crowded at the barrier in font of the stage. As soon as the band that was playing on the stage close to ours was done playing they started chanting "Pa-ra-more Pa-ra-more". About 5 minutes later we started our intro music, then Taylor, Jeremy and the other guys went out, they got their share of cheers, then finally I went out and the crowd went wild. I don't know why everyone always seems more excited to see the singer than the other band members, I feel bad for my band mates.

"One, two, three, HIT IT! I told 'em all to stick it, I left town with a dime to my name, said I'm done with all of my fake friends self-righteous pawns in a loosing game..." The rush of preforming and the struggle to remind myself not to over do it at the beginning made me forget about Jenna; until half way through the show I saw her standing at the back of the stage. I waved to her with a big smile on my face. I caught her dancing to a few of the songs and she sang along to most of them.

When we were about to play Misery Business I had a plan, I went to all the boys and whispered what I wanted them to do in their ear, they all agreed. We started the song and played normally, but right before Taylor's solo I stopped singing, turned towards Jenna.

"Ladies and gentlemen of Pomona, California I present to you the one and only Jenna Mcdougall" I said gesturing for her to come up to the front of the stage with me.

Her eyes were big and she was blushing, but she came and stood by me. I stood on the Paramore box, which barely made me taller than her, and put my arm around her shoulders. The boys kept playing their tune.

"I know this is a surprise Jenna, I'm sorry, but I wanted you to show the crowd your wonderful talent. I hope you know the words." she nodded so I continued talking "Okay. Take that mic over there and on the count of four start singing."

She went over to the side of the stage and grabbed the orange mic.

I started the countdown "One, two, one, two, three, four"

"I watched his wildest dreams come true not one of them involving you, I watched my wildest dreams come true not one of them involving" she sang it perfectly even hitting the high note.

We stood at the front of the stage headbanging together while Taylor played the solo and then finished the song together, her voice was slightly lower than mine and our voices together made a wonderful duet.

"Jenna Mcdougall from Tonight Alive. Let's give her a round of applause."

The crowd roared with excitement. I hugged Jenna and gave her a kiss on the cheek before she walked off the stage. We only had one more song.

After finishing the set I went and met up with Jenna.

"You sounded great and it looks like you have a hell of a lot of fun up there, you're so energetic." she said as I walked up to her.

"Aw thanks, you gotta keep it interesting both for yourself and the fans when you've been touring for so long. You sounded amazing, you didn't even know I was going to call you up, but your voice still sounded as perfect as ever." I replied.

"I'll never be as good as you."

"Are you kidding? You are probably going to be my biggest competition in a couple years, you'll steal all my fans. Haha. Wanna come with me to get some dinner?"

"Sure. Do you think we could find some pizza around here?"

"Are you serious? We're surrounded by high school and college students, what else would they want to eat? Salmon?"
