Vik's POV

I walked towards Lachlan  and I waved towards him. "Um, hi. Lachlan , ri-right?"
Lachlan smiled slightly and slide his phone in his pocket. "Yup."
His golden watch caught my eye as he waved me towards a large door attached to a high rise. I stood behind him, holding my books to my chest. My notebook becoming damp from where my hand sat.
As he punched in his code, I saw two girls pass us, in long dresses with fur coats. They laughed and made comments to each other about my holey baseball cap and raggy old pants.
As we reached the top floor of Lachlan's building, he explained about what directions we could take the project. I played with with notebook paper as he talked and agreed with all the things he said.
"Do you want anything to drink?" Lachlan  asked, throwing his keys to the counter and walking into the kitchen.
    "Water p-please."
Lachlan  came back, tossing a Fine water at me.
"Do you want to stay for dinner? We can order out." Lachlan said jumping onto the couch, wrinkling his freshly ironed shirt.
"No, I have to get home. I have something to do with my, um, family."
I walked over towards the couches, placing my water down beside them, while I searched for the instructions. As I saw the paper, items began to slip my grip.
"Let me help." Lachlan offered, but I shook my head quickly, backing towards the couch.
"I got it."  I let the books fall onto the couch and I grabbed the paper handing it to Lachlan. "Um, let's get started."

"The project took forever." Lachlan yawned out.
I looked towards the bay window and noticed how dark it got since I had arrived. I got up from my seat on the white couch and walked with awe towards the window.
I saw people stroll through the colors in the park. Lights glistened off buildings and onto the sidewalks, making them look amazing. I had never seen anything like it.
"If I lived here I would never take my eyes off this view."
"You get used to it." Lachlan laughed opening a drawer of a end table. "Want to stay for dinner?"
    "Sure."
Lachlan and I were both shocked by my answer. Why did I say yes?
Maybe it was because of the project.
Or maybe it was the city lights.
