•Chapter 28•

*Several Weeks Later*

I ran through the side woods for my morning run. I was finally able to escape the vampires. I haven't seen Harry since I left 3 weeks ago. The mark was still intact but slowly began to fade, that is, until this morning. The marks began to become more prominent, darker. My parents, and my three friends know about Harry's being and that there's others. My parents grew up around them actually. That's what I found strange. Many of his kind roamed the streets, no one knowing except for a few people. Those few people were my parents. They know what a vampire could do to a human, and so much worse could have been done to me. I couldn't bear the thought of losing Harry after I left, but when I re-united with my family and friends. I knew that I didn't need him in my life.

I've been living with Nathan for the past 2 weeks. My parents thought that I would need some protection, and my parents weren't home a lot. Plus, I go to school with Nathan, so I was protected there as well.

My legs carried me across the perimeter of the forest over to the apartment complex. I raced up the steps, pony tail bobbing up and down. My wrists were relaxed and held up at my sides by my forearms. I unlocked the apartment and went inside. I entered the kitchen to find Nathan cooking two omelets.

"Hey!" I beamed, kissing his cheek.

"Hey, how was the run?" He grabbed two plates from the cupboard as I opened the fridge to get a water bottle.

"It was good. Ran along the perimeter again." I explained.

He smiled, "good." Both omelets were placed on different plates. He grabbed another from the cupboard. "Bethany's coming over this morning. Thought I would make her one too." He grabbed two eggs and the ingredients that she likes.

"Oh. Okay." I grabbed my plate and a fork. I sat down at the table, cutting a piece of egg off of the folded breakfast. "Thanks by the way." I popped the egg into my mouth.

"No problem." There was a knock at the door. "I got it." He walked over to the door, opening it. "Hey, Beth. She's in the kitchen."

Bethany was immediately in the kitchen. She flung her arms around my shoulders. "Hi." She grinned up at me.

"Hi. I understand that you missed me, but you just saw me yesterday," I pulled her from me. "plus, I have all my classes with you, Nathan and Jesy." I explained.

"I know. Its just..." She trailed off, eying my hand. "It got darker? The markings were starting to fade the other day. What happened?"

"I don't know. I woke up this morning and they were how they were the other day, while I was running in the forest..." I trailed off, realizing which forest I was in. "He must've seen me, or something." The mark began to burn.

My fingers curled at the burning sensation. "I'll take you to your moms." Bethany rushed me out to her car. Nathan turned off the burner, following us.

"Nathan, call Jesy and tell her that we will be late and to have her dad take her this morning." We would usually pick up Jesy after Bethany met Nathan and I at his place, we wouldn't do that everyday though.

Nathan pulled out his phone, dialing Jesys number.

We arrived at my Moms house. My hand felt like it was crumbling into thousands of tiny pieces. I was rushed out of the car in Nathan's arms. My mom was immediately at my side. "Come on, take her inside." Her voice was frantic. She looked around in the trees and above the house.

"He's not with us." She mumbled. We were rushed into the house. My dad appeared at my side.

"I'll take her Nathan." I was put into my fathers arms, taken into the basement.

My father placed me down on to his work chair, he squirted out a familiar liquid and spread it across my hand. The pain finally stopped, and my hand eased it's nerves. "Where did you get the venom?" I asked. My gaze stayed on my dad, his eye brows furrowed in concentration.

"Harry, came by the other day, and gave it to me. He knew that it would happen soon." He explained. I nodded my head. "He asked where you were." He said.

His hands reached for a roll of gauze behind me. He wrapped it around my hand. "He did?" My voice was quiet.

"Yeah. He said that he missed you. I wouldn't tell him where you were at." My father explained. I was glad that he didn't give out my current information.

"Did he hurt you? Because you wouldn't tell him?" I asked.

"No he didn't." I was then pulled up from the chair. "Better?" He questioned.

"Yeah. Thanks Dad." I pulled him into a tight hug.

Our group walked along the hallways to the lunch cafeteria. Several people asked what happened to my hand. I gave the same excuse that I told Nathan when he came to visit after 3 months of my kidnapping. I got burned badly the night before.

After standing in different lines for forever we made our way to our table. The table was rounded, so we ended up getting a good pattern going.

Nathan, Me, Bethany, and Jesy. We were the only ones at our table when we arrived as one again.

"So, why do you think that the mark darkened?" Nathan asked the group. "Jesy? What's your theory."

"Well--" the intercom interrupted Jesy statement.

"I need Sarah McCarthy to come the front office. Sarah McCarthy to the front office."

What the hell?

I stood from my seat, the cafeteria grew quiet as I passed the hundreds of other students. I opened the double doors to the lobby, and saw the familiar green eyes peer back at me. "I told you not to run." His voice sent chills down my back.

I stumbled back, falling to the floor. When I looked back up he was gone.

"Ms. McCarthy. Are you alright?" A woman that I assumed was the Secretary of the school walked out into the lobby.

"Yeah. Uhm. Was there a boy here? Green eyes, curly hair, really tall?" I asked.

"No. Were you expecting someone?" She asked.

"No, no. Sorry." I replied.

There was no way, I was going crazy. I wasn't losing my sanity.
