Chapter 38•

•Sarah's Pov•

He came by today. The screams slowly faded the more we talked. I felt normal again. Out of my fifty-two card stack, he was the missing card needed to fill the tiny space. He was my completion to help me. I know I needed help. I couldn't shake the screams that filled my mind everyday; but they suddenly stopped when I saw him yesterday through the glass.

"Devin, come on. It's time to go back to your room." Jacob tapped on my shoulder.

"I don't want to go yet." I peered up at him. I looked back at the cards, they were all in place. "Everything is normal until," I tapped on the first card I saw on the bottom, "It all falls." The stack of cards fell, leaving the Eight of Diamonds sitting on top.

"I have to take you back, Devin." Jacob placed his hand over mine.

"Can I bring the cards?" I gathered the cards in my hands, placing them into the paper box.

"Yes, but we have to go back. I don't want you missing dinner." He pulled me through the long corridors that led to my room. He followed me inside, closing the door behind him.

"Shouldn't you be serving the others?" I rudely remarked.

"I need to speak to you, first." He sat down next to me on the hard mattress.

"What do you need?" I flipped the pocket knife through my fingers, hidden in the sleeve of my sweater.

"That guy, Harry, I think was his name. You seemed to perk up when you're with him. Why is that?" He asked.

"I love him..." I whispered.

"You do?" He questioned.

I nodded. "He helps me." I shortly explained.

"How does he help you?"

"The screams and the hallucinations go away when I'm with him. He's my cure." I explained. As I was saying this, the screams filled my mind again. "They're back again."

"I'll be right back." He left the room quickly, running down the dark corridor, running toward the lobby.

"Ms. Hastings?" I turned toward the doorway of my room, Katherine stood there. "Turns out it's your lucky day. You're leaving. We just need to take a few more tests." She placed my clothes on the bed.

"Thank you, Katherine." I mumbled, staring at the desk, with several marks from the knife.

"Get dressed and I'll take you to the nursing corridor." She closed the door.

I got dressed and walked out of the room, waiting for Katherine to join me. She was at my side and walking me down to the testing area.

My eyes grew wide at who was picking me up. It was Harry.
