Chapter 11 ~ Surprise For The Girl and The Elder

Wyatt had walked inside of the building. Lucy had assumed he had to use the restroom. But no.. She was completely wrong if she had thought that. He was doing something. Something for her. And Luke. "Hello sir, how may I help you?" A man at the front desk of the shelter asked. "I would like to talk to you. About a dog." The man nodded. "Okay. What is it?" He asked.

Wyatt had been gone for a while now. As it was getting late, it was getting colder. Lucy could see her breath every time she took a deep breath. How long can it seriously take him, a soldier, to use the bathroom? If he's not back out here soon, I'm going to go get him.. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.. She thought. Yes, wait and see, sister. Amy said, still not being noticed. Some of the dogs were beginning to become tired and began to huddle together for warmth, while others ran around, full of energy. The horses in the next pasture grazed silently, some of them chasing each other around. Lucy smiled at the playfulness of all of the animals. Not only history was her life, but animals were too. Despite Luke's old bones and blind right eye, he still somehow ran the fastest. Luke always was the fastest dog; every time that Lucy and Amy had volunteered at the shelter, he had always been the fastest. And he still was. Lucy began to shiver because of the cold. Luke had noticed she was cold and padded slowly over to her. He sat by her feet and licked her hand. "I love you too, old boy.." Lucy whispered to the dog. Lucy then explained to the dog about her travels and all she had been through. She told him about her feelings for Wyatt. Luke just tilted his head to one side. Even though the dog didn't understand her, Lucy felt happy that she had at least someone to talk about her feelings to. Lucy buried her face into Luke's fur. She then heard the door open and footsteps approach her. She put her head up in alarm. However, it was only Wyatt. " Oh. Hi. You scared me a little bit there, sorry." Lucy said, standing up. "Sorry that we scared you.." He replied. "We? What are you talking about?" She asked, confused. A teenage boy, a volunteer, stepped out from behind Wyatt. The boy had a leash in his hand. "Hello." The boy said quietly. Lucy nodded "hi" to him. "What is this about?" Lucy asked, confusion clouding her eyes. "Well, I said I wouldn't fail Luke. And I made that a promise." Wyatt replied. "I'm adopting Luke for you." Lucy practically jumped into Wyatt's arms. "Thank you." She whispered, kissing him. Wyatt blushed, and the teenage boy rolled his eyes and smiled as he put the leash on Luke. "Well, it was sure a pleasure to work with you, old boy.. We're all gonna miss you. Have fun at your new home!" The boy said, petting Luke. The boy handed the leash to Lucy. "There you are. Now, have fun!" He said. The boy walked inside, and Lucy and Wyatt stood outside, looking at the sky as the sun set. "So.. What made you want to adopt Luke for me?" She asked him. "I thought it would be nice to give a surprise for my girl and the elder." Wyatt replied, grinning. "Wait.. Your girl? What do you mean?" Lucy asked, confused again. Wyatt shrugged. "I don't even know.." He admitted. "Well, either way, thank you.." She replied, kissing him once again. After the wonderful day at the animal shelter, Lucy, Wyatt, and now Luke got into Wyatt's car. They drove off into the night, heading back to Wyatt's house.

Meanwhile, Amy sat in the back of the car, next to Luke, who was still asleep. I knew they would confess, or at least get close to it! Uggh, just confess already! Amy said. She thought her sister was absolutely adorable with Wyatt. Heck, her sister already called off the unexpected engagement her fiance Noah so.. Anything was now possible, and both her sister and Wyatt could now both be open to any possibilities. Amy now had another question: Would her sister attempt to get her back, or will she be too caught up with Wyatt to care? The answer was really unknown now..
