I, Saniya Sheikh, am a simple small-town-girl. I have always counted myself in one of the luckiest people in the world. I have always been thankful to Almighty for everything He's provided me with and more.

I have lived my whole life here with my parents in a small house.

My father has always been my idol. He worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk and returned home with a lovely smile which shone on his tanned face.

My mother is a lovely woman. Her heart could accommodate all the residents of the world, human and non-human and still have space for more. She looked after me, my father and our house with a lot of love and care. She was married at a very early age and all the years, work, stress and burdens could never harm her angelic beauty.

I was engaged since childhood to one of my maternal cousins, Ryan; who lives in the city. Everything was planned out. I was to be married soon after my betrothed was settled with a job and I had graduated. 

Though my family was not too well-off, we were very happy.

But then, my life suddenly turned upside-down...

My father suddenly died in some accident at his factory!

His death was too sudden and severe for us mother and daughter pair to handle. We had no one to look upon. It took us several days to get on with our lives. 

But all was not over yet!.. We found out that my father had taken a large sum of money from a money lender for my education and marriage.

The money lender was an old, mean and wealthy widower. He had only a brother who lived with him along with his wife and a son.

Hardly 6 months had passed since my father's death, and he started pestering me and my mother to pay back his debt. The sum, along with the insane interest he had laid, was too much for us to pay in our life-time. 

It wasn't long before we found out that, what the money lender wanted was not exactly money, but something more than that... He wanted revenge. He had his eyes on my mother since their youth. But my mother's father preferred to marry her to a poor, but honest man; than to a spoilt rich characterless guy. This had hurt his pride too much. It was only now that he got a chance to fulfill his life-long desires. My mother had no choice but to accept his marriage proposal. 

It was that or my ruin! 

Everything was still bearable... until that dark night...
