Soon after my mom's marriage to the money lender,, Arsalan, we both shifted to her husband's house. It wasn't a house actually, it was a mansion. A lifeless, soulless mansion. I wasn't the type to be awed by wealth. Thus, the mansion seemed nothing more than a golden cage to me.

The mansion was situated on a vast land. It had 3-floors; the ground floor, the first floor and the terrace. .

As soon as one enters the main gates, one can find a big, beautiful garden. It grew several types of flowering plants and also had a vegetable patch, where most of our kitchen groceries came from. The garden led into a semi-circular veranda. The veranda was surrounded by the living area. It had two wings. The right wing had my mom's and her husband's bedroom, His office, a drawing room and a living room. The left wing had a servant's quarters, kitchen and a bathroom meant for the servants and visitors.

A flight of stairs in the dining hall led to the second floor where Arsalan's brother, Nouman and his family lived

A flight of stairs in the dining hall led to the second floor where Arsalan's brother, Nouman and his family lived. There were four rooms. One bedroom for Nouman and his wife, another for Nouman's son, Shahed.

One of the rooms had some gym-equipments and a home-theatre along with a small parlour

One of the rooms had some gym-equipments and a home-theatre along with a small parlour. This room was probably used mostly by Shahed and his friends.

There was another large room. It was meant for guests. It had an attaced bath-room, a TV set and a balcony.

Further up the stairs, one can find a vast terrace. On one side were two rooms, mutually connected and a bathroom. This is where I was living. My room opened up on to the terrace and i spent more of my time out there than in my quarters. It didn't take me long to find out that, before my arrival, these rooms were also occupied by Shahed. The hidden snuff boxes, Broken pieces of glass on the far side of my room, the torn posters of barely-cladded models and similar CD cases, the home-theatre and what not... I discovered all these when I decided to thoroughly clean the place myself since I never relied on others to do my chores. Though my room was somewhat cleaned and made up before my arrival, I always had pride in my keen eyes for thrash.

The place in itself did not bother me. We were living more luxuriously than I could ever remember living in my whole life.

What posed a threat to me were the inhabitants of this golden prison!!...
