It was another day of not being able to drag his body out of bed, feeling like a battered victim of a war, a mental war.
She smiled weakly at his efforts. He use to be such a early riser. But that was before.
He grabbed his red rimmed glasses off the table, pushing them up on his face.
Those always framed his face so well, she thought as she admired his lovely, even though tired, face from across the room.*******
Not again...he hasn't eaten anything in 4 days she thought as the blue haired boy walked out the door without another look back.
******
"Oh, there you are Rei-chan. I was worried." The girl smiled, relieved that he finally had someone to talk to...though she knew he wouldn't. He was to stubborn. She still couldn't help but feel grateful of her short blonde friend.
Nagisa tried not to make things any worse as he and Rei walked quietly to class, the tall blonde girl following closely behind as always.*******
She sighed along with her short friend as she saw her beautiful bluenette let his head fall heavily onto his desk.
It was a normal routine as of late for him to sleep during class...in turn letting his grades slip without care.
It bothered her so badly to see the only person she ever cared about let himself rot away so easily. She wanted to comfort him...but she knew nothing she could do would help now.************
"Do you want me to walk home with you Rei-chan?" The blonde male asked his friend gently.
She smiled to herself, waking with him after school was always her routine as well. She hasn't ever missed one day of walking with the man she loved back home. Her hand tightly wrapped around his...even if he didn't acknowledge it anymore.
"No thank you...I'll be fine." His voice was so emotionless. Though that had also been a recent symptom as well.********
She noticed he started to get frustrated with things that use to come so easily to him....
His homework, that she would always sit down and do along with him and only take an hour or so, now took what seemed like a lifetime to complete. That was, if he actually had the patients to even start it. He would most of the time just slam his book shut with force and lay down in his bed for another restless night. And even though he wasn't aware, she was there to kiss him goodnight...even if he didn't sleep.********
He never smiled anymore. She noticed this soon after he returned home one day. It seemed so rare to see his face light up, if it ever did. Only once had she seen his face a more relaxed and comforted expression as he stared at his phone. Passing through old texts, photos, videos or whatever it was to bring back his memories.
She felt her heart swell with joy as his face brightened for once...though it only lasted a couple of seconds, before his hurt became more than he could handle.
She saw him throw his phone against the wall across from his bed as firmly as he could, the sudden explosion of electronic pieces flying only dulled by the overwhelming sound of his failed attempts to hold back his sobs.
He always was strong...almost to the point of stupidity. She loved that about him. And as he tossed his glasses off he pressed his palms into his eyes. "God, why!" He whispered to himself angrily.
She couldn't help but sit behind him, hugging his body tightly as she buried her face into his broad back. She didn't know if it would work, though she tried each time he got to this point.************
Around the same time every night he would shoot up out of bed, frustrated at yet another sleepless night. "I cannot take this feeling any longer. This pain is to much!" He would cry out every time.
The poor girl could do nothing but stand there watching her boyfriend in agony. And this was all her fault. She was there for him...even if he couldn't see her. She was there. Everywhere. Every time.
The blue haired male finally broke down into fits of sobs. Continuous weeps of sorrow and loneliness fell from his eyes as he cried out in pain, his crying becoming so distraught and messy that he could hardly catch his own breath.
The girl gripped at her heart as she saw her lonely boyfriend do the same, as if she could feel the pain he was agonizing over.
"Rei! Rei-chan!"" The girl heard a couple of worried voices call from down the stairs.
She let out a sigh of relief, finally someone to comfort him. Makoto, Haru, and Nagisa were always going to be there for him, from now on. Especially now that she couldn't be, physically.
"Rei...." The tall male said softly as he swung the door open and saw the shattered pieces of Rei as he was doubled over weeping gripping at his his broken heart.
"You guys....I can't take it any longer! Im going mad!"
She winced at the hopelessness in his voice.
"It's alright Rei..." Makoto assured softly, sitting in front of the broken boy.
"I can't find a way out of this darkness..."
"It's okay Rei-chan...." Nagisa repeated Makoto's soft tone.
She sighed at his tear stained face.
"I can't live without her...she was my light you guys...and now...she's gone..." He couldn't hold back his walls any longer and doubled over again in a sob as he clutched her specially designed swim team jacket tightly.
"We are here. We miss her too Rei. We understand." Even Haru spoke gently to the weeping teen.
All of the guys huddled around with tears falling out of the eyes.
"I JUST WANT HER BACK!" She heard her boyfriend cry out in pain.
The girl felt her heart fall, she wished she could hold her boyfriend and that he could hear her continuous apologizes. She wished that she hadn't of ran away from him that night when they had that fight...she was upset...hurt and couldn't even see from the tears clouding her vision. So she couldn't see as she ran down an alley by herself to cry her eyes out, when a strange man had pulled a gun on her.
"Give me your necklace. Or whatever jewelry you have on. Now!" He had yelled angrily.
She didn't have anything on her and she tried to tell the man, but he wouldn't listen. At the top of his irritation he yelled, "THEN YOURE USELESS!" And all she could hear was a gun shot along with a familiar voice cry her name out.
The next thing she remembered was opening her eyes and seeing her body laying on a hospital bed...motionless. Her beautiful boyfriend on his knees next to her bedside, gripping her hand tightly. She could hear him begging profusely, "Don't leave me! Not like this! Please! I'm begging you! You have to come back! I need you! Please!"
She returned from her momentary flashback with a sigh. And at the scene of the boys crying before her, all she could say was, "Rei Ryugazaki...I love you more than anything....don't ever forget that please."
Oh how she wished he could hear her...
But she knew he'd never be able to again...
All because she ran away...
