Knocking sounded at Ivan's cherry wood door, surprising the large Russian. Curious about the sound, he descended down his stairs as he rubbed at the sleep in his violet eyes that- just moments ago- were on the verge of bliss. "Who would be doing the knocking at the door at such late time?" He yawned to himself before opening the door.

There you stood, shivering from the cold that lingered outside.

His eyes widened immediately when his eyes focused on your face, "(Y/n)! What is it that you are doing so late?" His question caused you to smile up at him the best you could, comforted by his thick accent- which you've become accustomed to recently. As soon as the Russian man fixed on your teary eyes, he knew your smile was forced and his look turned skeptical.

"Could I stay the night, maybe?" Your teeth chattered against the harsh wind as you wrapped yourself tighter in your bundled coat and scarf. Ivan then reached out and ushered you into the ever present warmth of his homely house. "Uhm...before you ask," you mentioned cautiously with a nervous chuckle, "it's just because Francis and I had a little tiff, and well, I just don't feel like sleeping at home tonight. That is if you don't mind having me?"

"Of course not, you know you are not normal guest. You are always welcomed here." His eyes lingered on your form as you quietly made your way down the hall.

Following you over to the burning fireplace- that one of the Baltic's clearly had recently stoked to keep alive- Ivan sat back against the couch and watched you intently while you leaned forward toward the fire. He knew that this was more than a tiff. Ivan knew there was more to this than you allowed yourself to discuss. You always were the type to kept things bottled up and hidden away from others as to not bother them, but you never did that with Ivan. He wasn't exactly sure what said 'tiff' was about between the two of you, but he could probably guess. "(Y/n)," his soft call of your name made your heart pound painfully, you knew he'd know, "Why are you not telling me?" Ivan's violet eyes shimmered a warmth that you'd only been familiar with in his eyes for a while now.

Shaking your head in response, tears began to burn the familiar place they had been falling from earlier. You tried to stifle your sniffling, that was until you felt Ivan's gentle touch on your back and the comforting strength in his arms- thus you turned and collapsed against him. Tears burned as they trekked their recent path down your cheek once again, heart aching as you clenched Ivan's cotton sleep shirt like it would stop your sobs. Through the hiccups and sniffling, you managed to mumble out a few unintelligible words "F-Francis...doesn't love me," and "I...hate him".

Ivan knew of the rumors that had been passed around a few years prior to your marriage to the Frenchman- much to his dismay- but nothing had ever been confirmed and there was no need to cause a fuss to you just to cause himself more happiness. Though now, hearing these accusations become reality and seeing you in tears- yet again- over the man who he knew was no good for you from the start, made his blood boil. His heart contradicted him, however, since it yearned to console you and comfort you.

So, he did.

"Shh, my sunflower, he is not worth your hate. He is not worth your tears." Ivan told you soothingly, holding you close and rubbing soft circles into your back to calm you. Kisses rained over your face, from your temple to your forehead, and even your cheeks. "Please, do not cry, it makes heart hurt to see such sadness on such lovely face. Francis is not worthy of stealing your smile. Your smile reminds me of warm sunshine and beautiful field of sunflowers, he cannot take that away, not from my beauty." Ivan looked at you intently as he watched tears fall from the gems he knew to be your eyes, calmer now than when you first had broken down. His heart began to ache in sympathy, the sheer sorrow on your face, the brokenness in your eyes, tearing apart his normally stone demeanor.

You were so beautiful to him, how could someone take your vibrant eyes and make them look so sad, so broken? Ivan would never understand how Francis could handle being so involved with another woman when he could have you. Why wasn't he satisfied with you? You were everything; smart, funny, sweet, and absolutely precious beyond compare. What on earth would possess a man to not be satisfied with just you?

Ivan would never understand.

He cleared his throat and steeled himself as he lifted your chin, "Listen to me, sunflower. You must listen careful to words that I am going to say, ya?" Ivan began, his eyes catching your attention. He needed to make sure he was getting across to you how serious he was. His expression quietened your sniffles, you were confused by how he was acting and concerned as if he knew something you didn't. However concerned you were, you kept quiet and listened as he began to speak, "you are worth much more than Francis Bonneyfoy. There is much more for you out in the great big world than Francis. You can gain greater things than hin...and there is another who will love you better than that." The Russian man felt his heart thudding rapidly against his chest- there was no way he could really go through with this could he? His fingers trembled and his hands felt abnormally warm as one touched your cheek fondly.

He had to now. You needed him.

He needed you.

There was a soft sniffle as you rubbed at your nose, and with a stuffy voice, questioned- "what?" The quizzical look in your eyes, showing just how little you were following made Ivan chuckle under his breath. How was it that you didn't know how irresistible you were? Especially to him.

"My beautiful," he began, but started to slow to silence as he thought about what it would seem like if he continued. It would seem so inconsiderate to drop such a deep secret on your lap right now, especially after you came to him seeking comfort and support, not...something else. "I-" he stammered slightly but swallowed, then continued, "I want you to know- whatever you need, whenever you need- I am here for you. I will always be support for you." The genuine, soft smile that touched your face made his heart swell and flutter.

Laying a light kiss on his cheek, you thanked him. A few moments passed by as you sat and watched the fire before you exhaled all the stress from the night, resting against the couch beside Ivan. "Tonight has sucked. I want to build a time machine and go back in time, to change all of this."

The Russia man glanced over at your weary expression, nodding along- but for many different reasons. Ivan played all the scenarios in his head over multiple times prior to this night. If he had a chance to do things over, maybe he could've told you about Francis before you were so invested- no! He would go even further back, to before you even started to have feelings for Francis and instead of being quiet he would talk to you more. Tell you how beautiful he thought you were, how every time you walked into the room his usual strict attention was immediately distracted to you. How whenever he's make you laugh his heart would race with excitement, or when your smile have him goosebumps. He's go back and change it all so instead of sitting on the couch consoling you, he'd be sitting on the couch cuddling you. But, these weren't things he could do. Not now, perhaps not ever. So he let out a breath, "As do I, sunflower," then under his breath as you laid your head against his shoulder- "as do I."
