So, I've been rewatching Black Butler and I cannot get over my absolute love for Lau. I love him and the lack of fanfiction for Lau is very concerning to me lol so I've written like two or three stories strictly about him! I will be sharing them soon!
I hope you enjoy!
_________________________________"And what do you think you're doing Finnian?" You said with a strict tone as you saw the sheepish gardener wandering around with a suspicious look on his face.
"Oh! Oh nothing lady (y/n)! Please! Ignore me!" Finny shouted defenses as quickly as possible, his hands waving fiercely in front of him. Without another word he darted off into the other direction and down the hall.
"My, my, that boy can be so odd at times." You giggled to yourself softly as you continued your own journey down the large hall and to the stairs.
Sebastian noticed your presence and smiled graciously at you, "Ah, good morning lady (y/n), you are looking very rested. I do hope you slept well, as usual?" He greeted kindly, to which you sent him a dazzling smile accompanied with a nod.
"My cousin never ceases to amaze me with his glorious hospitality and comforting aura, it radiates to every room! I slept like a mere child last night, Sebastian!" The joy in your tone was almost overwhelming, as if you were over compensating. You were generally kind and gentle, but never this loud or excitable.
Going along with your odd behavior, the butler nodded in satisfaction, "I am glad to here it, milady." His voice was kind, however he was keenly aware of your unusual overjoyed behavior. "Is anything the matter, my lady? You seem...peculiar this morning."
Shaking your head lightly, a curious look across your face, you pondered on what he could mean. "I do not believe so? Should something be bothering me, Sebastian?" The utter innocence in your tone fooled even the butler himself into leaving the matter alone.
"Very well...perhaps I was mistaken." He answered with a less than genuine smile, knowing something was not right with your sudden change in mood. However he spoke no more of it and bowed as you left for the living hall to relax.
Giggling to yourself rather shamefully, you tucked (h/c) hair behind your ear slightly as a sigh escaped your lips. You rested yourself into the soft velvet of the couch, "Of course nothing would be the matter, it is, after all my birthday and yet no one has even remembered a thing, other than myself. Not even my dear old cousin....oh but who am I to be so harsh on this matter. Of course Ciel has more important things to worry about! I shouldn't be so selfish!" You scolded yourself guiltily and wiped a stray tear from your cheek as you giggled dishearteningly at yourself. "You are ever the crybaby, (y/n)."
Soon you heard the door opening to the living hall and your posture bettered significantly as to not show your recent depression in mood. When you turned to look at who was joining you, your eyes brightened and smile widened sincerely. "Lau..." a whisper against your lips.
"Ah! Good afternoon, my dear lovely lady! And how are you on such a fine day?" The Chinese man asked with his usual gentle smile as he came to kiss your hand as customary, then sitting across from you in a chair.
Lau had only been a few years older than you, being the age of twenty-eight, this made him five years older than you. It was plain for most anyone to see that the Oriental man was very interesting to you, in fact, you loved him. The two of you had been acquainted for more than two or three years and among those times of balls, parties, and other social events you were obligated to attend, you found Lau to be a very good friend to have around. He was gentle, kind, soft spoken, humorous, and even a bit flirty at times. You knew your feelings were nowhere near mutual, due to the fact that he had multiple women hanging about him without remorse, especially Ran-Mao. This did not bother you though, at least you tried not to let it because you felt privileged to have his friendship in the first place, knowing his business.
"You are alone today, I see. Tell me, where is Ran-Mao?" You inquired curiously as you glanced around for the woman that was usually so shamelessly clinging to Lau. 'Though I do not blame her...perhaps I would do the same if I were in her position...he looks so handsome even just sitting there. I'd throw myself at him too.' Without a moment more of thought, your face burst into a red blush and you covered your embarrassment quickly from the Chinese man. "Oh dear me! How dare I be so indecent!" You scolded yourself for being so scandalous.
Lau only chuckled at your show, "My dear, what has you so troubled? Your face is an awful shade of red. Are you feeling ill?" He asked playfully concerned as he stood and rested his hand against your forehead.
Shaking your head, you giggled shyly, denying anything and everything, "Oh nothing! It's nothing!" You waved off his concern and his hand. "Anyway! You never answered my question!"
"Ah yes!" The Chinese man said with a serious face, setting himself back down in the chair he had chosen earlier. His expression caused you to worry that you had said something to offend him, "What a question it was. Especially for one such as yourself to ask." Sweat began to break at your temple, 'He knows I'm jealous...oh no he knows I love him...' thoughts of worry began racing through your head until, "What was your question again?" Lau laughed lightly and you stared at him dejectedly.
"You are a fool, Lau." You muttered under your breath. "I questioned you about Ran-Mao?" You repeated exasperatedly only to have Lau nod in remembrance and smile at you kindly, his cheek coming to rest on his propped up fist. Shock overwhelmed you when you were caught by his rarely seen brown orbs. His genuine interest in you at that moment caused your breath to hitch, "Ran-Mao is at home. I told her I wanted to visit by myself this time, unaccompanied." He answered smoothly.
"O-Oh, well it must've been quiet the lonely ride for you here, huh?" You joked softly as you tried to play off your shyness. You had no idea as to why he would come alone, he was never unaccompanied by his 'sister'. She followed him everywhere. 'How odd.' You thought to yourself. Lost in your thoughts, you hadn't been aware of the fact that Lau moved to sit directly beside you, until his arm draped over the back of the couch where you were seated. Snapping your head in his direction, you were stunned to see how closely he had sat. Goosebumps exploded from your skin and you felt as if you were going to burst into flames. 'Why on earth is he sitting so close, so suddenly!? Is he trying to cause me a bloody heart attack!?'
"Do you wonder why I traveled here alone?" His casual, calm, gentle tone was unaffected by your proximity and it caused you to feel inadequate. You had been totally effected by his presence and yet your closeness had gone completely unnoticed by the man. His face was pointed directly ahead, eyes closed peacefully as usual.
Silence ensued as you clearly could not speak coherent words by this point, and Lau chuckled happily again, his face turning toward you and his eyes finally piercing yours with their lovely chocolate color. "The reason I traveled such a long way here by myself was because I wanted to see you, (y/n)." Clearly you had heard him incorrectly. You certainly must have. Why on earth would he want to see you? Just you? Besides his kind words, Lau hardly ever used just your first name. He always put something endearing before it, but hearing just your name spoken ever so deeply caused hot tingles to rush through your body. Then he continued, "Today is your birthday, of course. Right, my lady? I couldn't allow myself to not spend this most important evening with the woman I care so deeply for, yes?" His smile was genuine, warm, and ever so inviting.
"L-Lau..." Again his name was merely as whisper when it left your lips. Tears began to brim at the corners of your (e/c) as you gazed at him. "I can't...I-I can't believe you remembered." Your voice was a disgraceful mess and Lau wiped the tears that began to fall down your cheeks.
"But, my sweet love, how could I forget? Hmmm?" Then it dawned on him and his brows raised significantly, his hand resting on his chin as the other was still draped behind you. "Could this be the reason you questioned me about Ran-Mao? Were you jealous of her, darling?" He teased playfully, a blush spreading over your pale cheeks.
You wiped a couple more of your tears indignantly and huffed harshly as your arms found themselves placed firmly in front of your chest. "Absolutely not! Of course not!" You denied his accusation, yet he did not buy it. Fingers caressed your reddened cheek softly, shifting to your chin and turning your face to meet Lau's gently. "Ah? But my lovely lady, how boring would that be if it not be the truth?" He whined and pouted playfully, then he chuckled at your put out expression. "I understand why you do not like the idea of Ran-Mao clinging to me, my sweet, however I assure you," his voice dropped drastically as his eyes met yours once more, "I only dream of you. My heart yearns for you. And my fingers burn to touch you, (y/n). No other is like you. That is fact." Lau's sincere words made butterflies explode inside of your stomach and it felt as if they were aflame inside you. "So do not fret anymore over those things. You are the only one who truly draws my attention. Now! Shall we celebrate your birthday?" His usual demeanor fading back as his joyous smile returned.
Clinging to his form, you hugged him close and took in every single ounce you could. "Of course, Lau. I would love to!" You agreed excitedly as you snuggled your face into the soft silk of his oriental outfit. After a moment you looked up at him somewhat sad, "However, I do believe it will only be the two of us...no one else has remembered."
Lau pouted at you again but without hesitation wrapped you up in his long arms. "I like the sound of that even more!" He cheered playfully, scooting you onto his lap, "I won't have to worry about being interrupted then." The Chinese man teased seriously as he began to lay kisses against your neck.
Gasping in surprise, you laughed at his sudden display of affection. "Lau, not in here! It's the living hall! It's inappropriate! What if someone were to walk in?" You scolded as he laid you down against the velvet, hovering over you.
"It's the Earl's house, if he has any manners, he'll knock before entering." His response was more joking that ignorant, yet his pursuits on your neck and shoulder did not cease.
Giggling, you embraced his love fully, "Lau~" you purred happily against his ear.
This was definitely better than receiving a party. Any day.
