After three shakes, a ding came from the poké ball. Rosa released the breath she had been holding before eagerly running over to scoop up the ball containing her new friend. "Ok! Name time!" She held up two of the capture devices and looked at the Riolu and Mareep inside, one meeting her gaze while the other one shyly looked elsewhere. "Riolu, I'm going to call you Rina." The pokémon gave a nod, puffing out her chest. "And Mareep will now be Yomo." Yomo poked her paws together with the slightest of nods (she had been the easiest to catch).

"Back to searching for Herdier! It has to be here somewhere." Rosa put the devices away and continued her search. The forest at the back of the ranch caught her attention, so she walked over to it. She turned back to watch Hugh frantically jumping around the area in a comical manner that made her giggle. "Hey!" She called him, pointing toward the forest. "Herdier could have gone in here!"

"What are you waiting for?! Let's go!" He sprinted past her and the girl could have sworn she nearly died right then and there. 'Lord...' She internally sighed then jogged after him.

Rosa took her time as a janitor asked for a battle. Who was she to turn one down? Rina's strongpoint wasn't defense, as it seemed, so they definitely had to work on that. The Riolu preferred recklessly charging into a battle. And bless Yomo's little heart, she proved to be a clumsy and hesitant thing. 'Nothing a bit of training and bonding won't fix.' Rosa smiled at the two after the battle was over, with Jano finishing it up.

Hugh caught up to the four with a thoughtful look. "Pokémon don't just wander off on their own..." Rosa nodded in agreement as they continued on through the forest.

"I have a feeling something isn't right here." She looked down to find her pokémon feeling uneasy, their eyes darting about. Hugh picked up the pace.

"Come on."

The brunette groaned. "Wh- Wait up a bit." When he didn't listen, she made a bold move and grabbed his arm. "Damn it, Hugh!" He froze and turned to face her with wide eyes. Rosa fought back a blush. "You're always speeding off and I don't understand – but I would like to. Can't you just... relax a bit, and tell me what's been bugging you. I'm your friend, right? Walk with me." Her smile disappeared as quickly as it came due to her friend's stern expression. He shook her hand off.

"Are we friends?" His question surprised her. "Because you've been distant for the past few years now..."

Jano, Rina, and Yomo glanced at each other, the situation taking their mind off of their uneasiness. Rosa could only stare at Hugh, speechless. He did have a point there. 'Should I tell him why? I mean, he won't share anything with me if I don't do the same.' The brunette clenched her teeth. Before she could open her mouth, a bark echoed around them.

"Did you hear that?" Hugh scanned their surroundings and then ran off to a path leading another way. "I'll check this area! You go deeper in the grove!"

Wanting to just forget their conversation, Rosa almost immediately agreed. "Let's go." She glanced to her pokémon before running on further into the forest. For a moment, she thought she was lost. The forest seemed like a maze and an anxiousness overtook her at the thought. The sound of a whimper snapped her out of it, and she was grateful for it. Rina suddenly ran toward the noise with Rosa and the others hurrying after her. "Did you find Herdier??"

The Riolu skidded to a halt and hid behind a tree. 'There it is!' She attempted to leap out but Rosa quickly caught her.

"D- Don't go charging in blindly!" She scolded, moving her head to get a look at the farmer's pokémon. It proved to be hard with all the foliage blocking their line of sight. She could make out the colors of Herdier, though, and what seemed to be something else. "Hey! Hugh!" Rina gave up flailing around in her trainer's arms.
