Hugh lifted his head to stare at the gray, cloudy skies. Snowflakes tickled his skin as they passed by, melting upon contact. The air did a good job in cooling him off, but he was still angry with the ex-Plasma group. They should feel sorry for what they had done.

"Huuugh!" He lowered his head to look over at his childhood friend. "Look," she slowed to a stop, "you have a right... to be angry with them, but maybe accept their... apology and forgive them for what they did. You don't have to forget... what happened though." She panted every now and then during her speech, leaning over. "Geez, those stairs!"

The blue-haired boy cracked a smile. "Clay was tough to beat."

Rosa failed to realize, at this moment, that he changed the subject on her. "Who's Clay?"

He nodded toward the gym behind him. "The gym leader. He specializes in ground-type pokémon, but you might have a hard time even with a water-type or a grass-type on your team."

This caused the brunette to frown. "Jano and Rina are my only hope, I guess..."

Hugh felt eyes on him, then noticed a strange fox creature on the girl's head. Weird how he hadn't noticed it before. "Uh... and that is...?" He pointed atop her head.

"Oh!" Rosa reached up to poke at Zorua but she yelped when he nearly snapped her finger off. "Th- This is a Zorua! Um, Rood wanted me to watch over him for a while, saying how Zorua was their lord's  good partner or something." She explained, unaware of Hugh's eyes narrowing at the mention of the elderly man.

"That thing is probably a spy."

Rosa placed her hands on her hips, a single brow raised. "This "thing" is in my care and I will not allow you to speak to him so rudely!" Zorua started to nuzzle his chin against the girl's bangs, a smirk sent Hugh's way. Rosa reached up to pet him and was surprised to find that he allowed it. "Wow, why are you suddenly affectionate?" She only received a yip.

"Whatever..." Her friend looked away, irritated. He couldn't believe he felt a wave of jealousy because of a pokémon. Why was he jealous? He had no idea. Well, probably a little. "So, uh, good luck in there, but I doubt you'll need it."

"That's the sweetest thing you've ever said to me!" She grinned, surprising him.

"Really? I don't believe that." He crossed his arms. There had to be plenty more.

Rosa simply walked past him. "Believe it." She chirped, opening the door to the gym and letting it close behind her, leaving Hugh standing outside.

After a while, he shook his head. "Still don't believe it..."

"Welcome to the Driftveil City's Pokémon Gym!" The lady at the counter greeted with a welcoming smile. "In this gym, elevators are provided for your use."

Rosa looked to the back of the room and found a platform that she guessed was the first elevator. "Thank you." She smiled at the lady before getting on the platform, locating a switch then pulling it down. The elevator shook a bit as it lowered itself, causing Zorua to growl at the mechanical noises. The girl watched as a room came into view, stepping off the platform once it stopped.

She moved through the room until she found a doorway leading to darkness. "Uh..." Should she be worried? With hesitant steps, Rosa entered. She only made it about seven feet before a light suddenly turned on, only illuminating the area she was on and didn't follow her as she continued. The path was a conveyor belt, which she thought nothing of, but once both of her feet met it, she was shot forward. "Holy–" Rosa landed, or fell, on the next platform while Zorua tumbled from off her head.
