School on Monday morning wasn't as hard as I usually found it. Having my whole family back together had definitely made things easier and more relaxed. Everyone was thanking me for having a great party, not that I was present at most of it. I had my great group of friends around. Brody kept giving me meaningful glances as if asking whether I'd had anymore nightmares since. With a discreet shake of my head, he visibly relaxed, becoming his usual self once again. Hanging around the school yard until the bell, I noticed a bit of commotion as the students all rushed out to the front of the school. What, why. We all stared at each other for an explanation when Tom piped up.
"Oliver's coming back to school."
Oh fudge muffin pancakes, why.
I rolled my eyes as everyone decided, not including me, to venture out and welcome him back. They all figured that they liked him and wanted him in the group. Hoo-freaking-ray. I had enough problems with boys without having them all around at the same time. Jude hadn't made an appearance since I'd told him to bugger off. I was kind of grateful for it, but at the same time I missed his cocky fuckery. He was always going to be the love of my life.
As we walked out the front, I was stopped by Peter, Ellie and Ashely, the Team Captain Trio. TCT for short. They all just sort of stared at me creepily while enclosing around me in a circle. I was having a flashback to the nightmare a couple nights ago and started hyperventilating, until Ellie whispered in my ear, "We have figured it out."
Ashley nodded. "We are going to 'try out' for the teams, get in, then train them up to be winning material. Then somehow break it to them that we have to leave and hope they can still win!"
It was hardly a foolproof plan. I could see plenty of flaws in it, but their enthusiasm I couldn't fault. And if it meant less work for me, I was willing to let them try it and hope for the best. That way they might leave me alone as much as possible. I needed to sort through my own shit first. Obviously I still wasn't over the accident, plus too many ghosts and boys. Ugh.
The TCT left me and I jogged to catch up to my friends who just ditched me to see Oliver. Some friends I have. I pushed my way through the crowd which was forming and found some familiar bright red hair near the front and made my way in that direction. Puffing hard, gosh I was unfit, I leaned my hand on Tom's shoulder. Totally didn't mean to pick him. He shot me a sad smile which brightened as he saw Oliver walk through the front gates like he owned the place. Wait. That wasn't like Oliver at all. Why on earth would he do that? He scanned the crowd, looking pleased for himself and strutted, yes, actually strutted towards my little group. Narrowing my eyes, I looked at him more closely, trying to figure out why he was acting like a total stranger. My own eyes flicked around the crowd, scrunching up my nose at the girls acting like he was some super hot celebrity. That was only half true.
He wore black shorts with a plain blue shirt. It accentuated his lean build with broad shoulders and narrow hips. His hair was shorter than it was at my party, obviously getting it cut before school. It was shorter and darker than I remembered, but still super attractive. But his new attitude definitely wasn't. I honestly had no idea what was going on with him. Where was the sweet, kind, quiet Oliver who liked his own space?
