Taking my bags from the lady at the counter, I walked out to meet Ames and Tom. They were laughing about something or other and I tried my best to plaster a fake smile on for them. They didn't need me being a downer on this trip. Apparently it had been mutually decided it was food time, so we skipped the last remaining stores on the top level and just went straight for the food court. I wasn't feeling all that hungry and played with my hands the whole way there, my eyes darting around frantically in case I got a glimpse of Jude.
Amity skipped over to a large, circular empty table, her black hair swishing from side to side as she did so. Tom ran a hand through his hair as he followed, a little habit he had. Exhaling, I stepped to catch up, pulling out an uncomfortable plastic blue chair to sit in. Except, with my mind being preoccupied, I didn't notice the brunette guy run up and slide into the chair, fist up in the air in victory. I looked to my right and saw a familiar redheaded girl walk up, shaking her head and laughing at the guy's antics. Scowling, I glared at the back of Brody's head, slapping his cheek.
"Ow! Uncalled for Morgan!" He whined like a two year old. Seriously, this guy.
"I think it was very called for actually. You did steal my seat and everything," I stated, the most obvious thing in the world. He shrugged and beckoned for Delilah to take the seat next to him. She gave me an apologetic expression before sitting with us. I took the seat in between Amity and Tom since the other seats were now all taken. Placing my elbows on the table, I rested my face in my hands whilst listening to the ensuing argument about what food to get. Ames wanted McDonald's, Tom wanted KFC, Brody was undecided and Delilah wanted sushi. Thank goodness we were at a food court. I was undecided also, still having minimal appetite. Brody's gaze was on me and he cocked his head to the side, staring me down. He was quiet for once. Until, "Guys! Since me and Terrie are undecided, how about you give us your money and we will go get all of your food, and we can pick while we are up?"
There was a general consensus of agreement and the three of them passed over a twenty each, listing off exactly what they wanted. Ames wanted her usual, as did Tom, which made my life easier since I had the memory of a goldfish. Delilah wanted a couple of sushi thingys which Brody could remember since he was her temporary boyfriend again. Speaking of, I should probably mention that to him. He seemed to forget he was dead.
After ordering at Macca's, we moved to the side, waiting for the order to be put together.
"Brody, you do realise at the end of everything, you will leave and Delilah will be heart broken again?" Best to be blunt, make him realise the gravity of the situation. I totally wasn't trying to make myself realise the same point.
He looked at me, his blue eyes sad. "I know. But I'm going to make the most of the next two months I have with her. She knows what's going to happen."
Uh huh, sure. I glanced back to our table, noticing Delilah getting on well with both Tom and Ames. I was glad to see she had forgiven Tom for whatever had happened. And Ames? She could get along with practically anyone. My order number was called and I went up to grab the bag of greasy goodness, returning to Brody and moving on to KFC and repeating the same process. Brody leant on a decorative fake garden wall while we waited.
"You do know that I know Jude's here, right? It's like a spidey sense, except ghosty sense." The ridiculousness of what he said didn't hide me apprehension on the topic. He continued, "I know he was in the dressing room with you all. He did tell me what his plan was and what he has to do. Him and I are mates, you know." No, I did not know actually.
