Chapter 4: Honeymoon Over, New Music
"Would you stop freaking out every two seconds?!"
"I wouldn't have to freak out if you would just let me think by myself for two seconds!"
Taylor and I have passed the honeymoon stage of our relationship. That one stage where everything is good and there's never anything wrong. We were definitely passed it. The tour was incredible and we barely ever fought, but living together was completely different. We have to be around each other ALL the time. I never realized how much work it was going to take. We were constantly bumping into each other and getting into each other's way. Neither one of us could have our own schedule because we were living together. Now we only had one schedule and it has to work for both of us before doing something. From small things like when to go shopping to interviews and performances and recording. It was driving me crazy and I had to get out and do something. Go out with Beth and Adrian and Grace or someone because I was ready to blow up. Taylor noticed it too. I could tell that he did.
"Is this your way or breaking up with me or something? The silent treatment?"
"What are you talking about?" I snapped.
"Lil, do you really think I don't notice? I'm your boyfriend. Are you trying to break up with me?"
"Of course not," I said, "I don't want to break up."
"Then what's going on? Tell me!"
"I can't!" I yelled.
"Why not?!" he yelled back.
"Because you'll get mad."
"Lil I'm already mad so just tell me!"
"This isn't what I expected it to be! This living together! I can't be here all the time surrounded by all the same people! I can't take it anymore!"
"You mean me?" he asked.
I looked up and saw the sadness in his eyes. "I knew you'd be mad."
"So what do you want then?"
"I don't know!" I yelled, "things just aren't what I expected them to be! We've been fighting ALL THE TIME for days now and I hate it!! We've been fighting more than we've ever fought before. What if that's not a good sign? I don't want to break up and I don't want to be away from you, but I can't handle all this fighting. It's driving me insane!"
"Lil calm down. I know we've been around each other a lot lately, but obviously things were going to change. We're living together now. That's different from visiting each other or hanging out every day. If you want to go hang out with your friends at night, then go. I'm not going to hold you back from that. I'm sorry things have been so crazy, but this is all new to me too. It's going to take some getting used to, and it may be annoying at times, but you have to talk to me. You can't just freeze me out and hope things get better. We have to work through them."
"I'm sorry," I said, "I didn't mean to. I just didn't want you to be mad and I didn't want to be in another fight."
"Lily, this is going to work. Stop putting so much pressure on us. Just relax and enjoy the way things are going right now. Yes we fight, but we're not going to fight all the time. Couples go through hard times, it happens, it's a part of life. Nothing's going to stop that. The perfect relationship doesn't exist, you can't keep hoping for it."
