Book 1: Not So Average Love Story of an Average Girl

Book 2: Not So Average Promise of an Average Girl

Note: I still can't believe this series has done so well. This Taylor Lautner fan fiction started off as a random idea out of nowhere and now it's one of the most popular series' that I've written. This story still has a few more chapters, but don't worry there is going to be a third book.

Chapter 29: Lily’s Best Friend

“Come in,” I said opening the door and greeting Abby’s parents.

“This place is beautiful,” her mom said, “You two must love it here.”

“Yeah it’s pretty amazing.”

“So when are we meeting Abby?” she asked.

“I told her I wanted to talk over lunch so she’s meeting me here. I figured you two could wait upstairs and wait for me to text you. The text will mean it’s okay to come down here. Once Abby sees you she will probably want to leave so we’ll have to prevent that from happening.”

“How?” her dad asked.

“When you two come down you’ll have to separate. Go on both sides of Abby so she doesn’t leave. That will leave us all to talk about what’s been happening. She’ll be here in a half hour.”

“Then we’ll go unpack,” her mom said, “We’ll be quiet and wait for your text.”

“Thank you guys for doing this,” I told them, “You have no idea how much I appreciate this.”

“She’s our daughter,” her dad said, “We want to help. Your friendship with her may be over, but we still need to get down to the truth.”

“We’ll stay here as long as it takes to get to the truth,” her mom said before they both walked upstairs to the guest bedroom.

Abby came right on time, but she wasn’t excited about talking. She sat down on the couch and I went in the kitchen to get a soda. I grabbed the cans and texted Abby’s parents upstairs. By the time I sat down with the sodas, they were coming downstairs.

“What’s going on?!” Abby practically yelled at all of us.

“We have to talk to you,” I told her.

“You called them?” she faced me, “How could you?!”

“They thought you were on Spring Break Abby! What the hell is going on? You have to tell us!”

“No!”

“Abby!” her dad yelled, “Since when have we taught you to lie to the people you love?”

“Fine! I’ll tell you! Do you know what it’s like to have people following you around all day asking about your best friend? They wouldn’t stop taking pictures and yelling at me to tell them something about the famous Lily! I felt like I was getting suffocated and I couldn’t take it anymore! I thought that the only way to get them to stop was if I went to Hollywood myself to become famous. No matter how hard I tried when I got here, nothing happened. Then at my last interview they asked me about Lily. When I started answering questions, they just kept asking and things started spilling out. That’s why they hired me. I wrote that article because it’s the only thing people seem to care about. They didn’t think you had any flaws so I made it my business to show it to them. Lily, you’re right. The only reason I made it in this town is because of you. I just wanted people to stop talking to me about you. I hate being known as Lily’s best friend.”

“What’s wrong with that?!” I yelled back, “Are you that ashamed of me? After everything we’ve been through, you’re still ashamed of who I am!”

“That’s not it!”

“Then what is it?!”

“Do you see how you’ve changed? In high school you were the gothic rebel girl who no one wanted to talk to. Whenever you weren’t in the room, all the popular kids wanted to hang out with me. They never understood why I was friends with you. It didn’t make sense. You seemed so normal when I was talking to you, but it’s like something changed whenever we were at school. It was a show or something you were putting on so people wouldn’t talk to you.”

“Abby stop,” her dad said.

“How could you do this to Abby?” her mom asked, “She’s been your friend for years. You can’t base a career off of your own best friend.”

“We’re not friends anymore,” Abby said.

“Which is exactly our point!” I said, “We’re not even friends anymore and your career is still all about me. You can’t keep doing this.”

“I don’t have a choice!”

“Why not? What’s forcing you to be here?”

“I don’t have anything else!” she yelled, “I failed my last college courses and I don’t have any idea what I want to do.”

“So come home,” her mom said, “You can start fresh. You can get a job, earn some money, or take some other classes that you might be interested in.”

I felt like we were standing there forever waiting for an answer. I didn’t want her to leave, but I know it’s for the best. Maybe she’s right. Maybe I did put on an act all those years in school, but I never thought I had a choice. If all those students knew who I really was, I would have gotten bullied to no end.

“Will you help me?” she finally asked, facing her parents.

Her mom looked over to her dad and he answered, “As long as you need us.”

Abby left with her the next day with both of her parents, but we didn’t say anything to each other. I saw in the way she looked at me the day she left how sorry she was. It was a mixture of sorry and guilt all in one. Taylor came home late that night with flowers in his hand to make me feel better. He helped me put the flowers in a vase and I put them up in our bedroom. For the rest of the night we laid on the bed and he talked to me to make me feel better.

“I know you’re sad, but at least she’s not here to spread any more rumors. She’s taking a fresh start back in Michigan. There’s still a chance she could be your friend.”

He had his arm around my waist and head was on his shoulder. “I know,” I sighed, “It was just so weird watching her leave. I can’t stop thinking about what she said to me. What if it was an act? What if I did all that stuff so no one else would talk to me? What if I wanted to be alone?”

“That’s not true.”

I looked up at him, “How do you know?”

“Because I still talked to you didn’t I?” he said, “You weren’t that scary. Abby has a lot of problems that she has to work out herself. You shouldn’t believe anything she has to say. You know you really are and I know who you really are. She doesn’t.”

I know he was right. After all the years I’ve been friends with Abby and she still didn’t understand. “Maybe she never did know who I really am. Maybe that was the problem all along.”

“It’s okay now,” Taylor said, running his fingers through my hair, “I love you.”

“I love you too.”
