Chapter 26: It’s Time to Let My Dark Secrets See the Light
“I have to do this,” I told Olivia, “Abby’s not right a lot of the time in those articles, but she was right when she said I have dark secrets. I used to cut and I got tattoos to remind me to stop. Abby wants it to seem like I still do those things, but I don’t. I have to tell them the truth.”
“As long as you’re sure.”
“I am,” I smiled, “And you are too. You would have argued with me a lot sooner than now while we’re waiting backstage.”
We both laughed and we heard the interviewer announce, “Lily Rose!”
“Here I go,” I smiled at her, “Time to let my dark secrets see the light.”
“You’ll have to remember that, it’s a great saying for a song.”
*Interview*
Interviewer: “So this reporter that keeps writing these hateful articles about you?”
“Let’s just say, it’s someone I used to know.”
Interviewer: “A friend?”
“She used to be.”
Interviewer: “Was it all wrong or was there some truth in the things she was saying? If she was a friend, she has to know what the truth really is right?”
“Yeah. Most of it was wrong… except one thing.”
Interviewer: “And what is that?”
“I did have a problem with cutting when I was in high school, but I don’t now. I haven’t cut myself in a really long time. I got my tattoos to help me stop cutting. Whenever I’m feeling depressed it’s always comforting to look at them and see all the positive sayings.”
Interviewer: “Why do you think this reporter wanted it to seem like you still cut?”
“I really have no idea. Even the reporter knows that I haven’t cut in a long time. I never told people because I never thought it was their business. I would have rather kept it to myself. I didn’t tell them why I got my tattoos either. They thought it was part of the rebel imagine I was trying to keep up.”
Interviewer: “That’s very interesting. It is really a rebel imagine or is it the real you?”
“I don’t put on an act for anyone. What you see is the real me. If someone asks me a question, I’m going to answer it. If they don’t ask, then I’m not going to say anything. Maybe that’s why some people think I’m so secretive.”
Interviewer: “So if I were to ask you any question whatsoever, you would answer it truthfully?”
“Yes.”
Interviewer: “Okay. Then everyone wants to know, who is this reporter? Do we know her? Have we seen her before?”
“Uh… my ex-best friend. You do know her and you’ve seen her in a few pictures with me before.”
Interviewer: “Did the ‘ex’ just get added recently?”
“Yes.”
Interviewer: “Were the articles the problem?”
“Yes.”
Interviewer: “Why come forward now?”
“I want my fans to know that I never meant to lie to them. When someone asks me a question, I’m always honest or at least I try my hardest to be. These articles are the result of a friend getting very angry at another friend. One of the friends just happens to be famous so an article seemed like the best way to get back at me. It’s in the best right of everyone right now to know what my dark secrets are. I do have them, but I think everybody does. Some are just worse than others.”
Interviewer: “One last question, how do you plan on moving forward from this?”
“I’m just going to keep living my life. I love it right now. I get to work on my music, go to photo shoots, and spend time with my friends and boyfriend. That’s not going to change and I don’t want it too. I just wanted people to know the truth and now they do. That’s about it.”
*End of Interview*
Taylor was the first person to greet me when I got home. He held my hand and we went for a walk around our yard.
“The interview was great you know?”
I sighed, “Yeah, it was.”
“Then why don’t you seem so happy?”
“I don’t know,” I said, “I guess I’m just feeling sad about Abby. I know she’s the one who betrayed me, but we were best friends. I know her darkest times and she knows mine. I just don’t see what could have happened.”
“Well her parents are coming in a few days so why don’t we just try to have some fun until then.”
“What did you have in mind?” I asked as I looked over at him.
“Want to go on the roof with me?” he smiled.
“I’ll race you there.”
“You’re on.”
We both sprinted towards the roof and he beat me by a few seconds, but offered to help me up. When we got there he sat down first and waited for me to sit next to him. I sat down and rested my head on his shoulder.
“You know sometimes I still can’t believe you’ve stuck with me this long.”
“Why not?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” I said, “I guess because I did start out in just a small town. I’m pretty sure you’re the only celebrity who’s ever come to my town. There are millions of other beautiful girls who would die to be with you right now, but you still choose me. And now we’ve been dating for 9 or 10 months now and you’re still not interested in anyone but me. You don’t even look at any other girls.”
“That’s because I don’t want any other girls,” he answered, “Look at me, you’re the only one I want. That’s it. You’re much more amazing than you give yourself credit for. I wish you could see that. No matter how many times you try to convince me otherwise, there’s no one else out there that’s right for me. Lily Marie Rose, believe it or not you’re stuck with me for life.”
I laughed a little before responding, “Then you’re stuck with me too, Taylor Daniel Lautner.”
He leaned it to kiss me, “at least we’re on the same page,” and our lips met.
