Chapter 28: Time to Surprise You
“Babe I know I said I would do something for you in celebration of your album, but you have to at least tell me what it is,” he laughed.
“Can’t you just trust me?” I asked, “You’re always surprising me with things so this is the one time I get to surprise you.”
“I’ll shut up then.”
I smiled, “Thank you.”
I pushed him towards our destination as best as I could with him laughing the whole way. When I was finally satisfied I told him to open his eyes.
“A park? I’m very confused here.”
I giggled, “Yes, I found the perfect park for us to run in.”
“Of all the things we could have done, you want to go running?” he chuckled.
“Yes,” I smiled, “Because it reminds me of when we first met. How we’d get mad at each other and go away to the park to run just to run into each other there.”
“And you miss those days?” he asked.
“We just haven’t been able to do that here so I’ve been searching different parks that we could go to. Do you think we could start running here?”
He smiled, “I think that could be a possibility.”
“Really?!”
“Really. Want to start by taking a walk right now?”
“I thought you’d never ask,” I smiled. I linked my arm with his and he started pulling me towards the sidewalk.
“So how long have you been planning this?” he asked. Our arms were still linked and my head was on his shoulder.
“I thought about it for the first time a few weeks ago,” I told him, “But I felt bad because you’re always doing these surprise things for me and I never do anything for you so I wanted that to change for once.”
“You, my beautiful, gorgeous girlfriend are pretty amazing do you know that?”
“It’s no big deal,” I said trying to hold in the fact that I was blushing, “I sometimes feel like I’m not doing enough for you like you’re doing for me.”
“That’s ridiculous. Like what?”
“Whenever we go out on dates you’re always planning these surprises and out of the blue you’ll come home with flowers or gifts or candy and I never do that. It makes me feel like a bad girlfriend sometimes.”
“You could never be a bad girlfriend,” he said kissing my head, “It’s just not possible. I don’t expect you to do anything like that for me on a regular basis. Just spending time with you is enough.”
“You’re so cheesy and cliché sometimes, you know that?” I laughed.
He chuckled, “Maybe, but you still love me so I don’t care.”
“Yes I do,” I smiled.
“Ready for Abby’s parents to come tomorrow?” he asked, changing the subject.
“I don’t know,” I sighed, “I’m really scared. I just hope that whatever’s happening to Abby is figured out.”
“Things will work out just the way they are meant to. Sometimes our life doesn’t turn out like planned.”
“You could say that again,” I said sarcastically. We both laughed.
“My point is,” he said, “Is whether or not you and Abby become friends again, just remember that it happened for a reason. There’s always a reason. Have trust that Abby will be okay in the end and you will be okay too.”
“Thanks.”
“No problem baby. Now let’s take a few pictures to remember this walk.”
“I thought you’d never ask,” I said as I took out my camera.
He smiled, “I should have known.”
Just as I was ready to take a picture he grabbed the camera from me and started snapping pictures of himself. When I tried to steal the camera he started snapping pictures of me. Trying to tackle him failed miserably and we both ended up lying on the grass.
“This is your fault,” he laughed.
“My fault?! You’re the one who stole my camera.”
“I was just taking pictures. You’re the one that tried to take the camera back.”
“Whatever,” I giggled, “You’re such a dork sometimes.”
He smiled, “That’s possible. Maybe I’m just happy that we get to spend time alone like this.”
“I’m happy too.”
“I hope so because that’s all I’ve ever wanted.”
I was smiling even before he said that, “You should know by now how happy I am when I’m with you.”
“I know and it’s great to see you smiling and laughing so much. It really is. You’ve changed so much since the day I met you in Michigan.”
“Good or bad?”
“Definitely good,” he chuckled, “I’m proud. Proud of everything that you’ve done and proud of the person you’ve become. I’m glad we’ve been able to make this life together. I can’t imagine my life being any different.”
“Me either to tell you the truth. I never expected things to turn out like this, but I’m really glad they did. I wouldn’t have been as happy in Michigan. I don’t even know what I would be doing if I had chosen to stay there.”
“Probably with that jerk Greg.”
“Are you still jealous of him?” I asked.
“How can I not be Lily?! You’ve known him since high school and you dated him and he still came back for you.”
“Because I don’t have feelings for him anymore,” I explained. I put my hand on his chest and kissed his cheek, “I never loved him. Especially not the way I love you. Our love is something I never experienced with him. It’s not even worth it to be jealous of him.”
“At all?”
“No,” I said, “Not at all.”
He gently kissed me, “I’m glad. He just makes me a little jealous sometimes.”
“I know,” I said, “But it doesn’t matter how many years he’s known me because it wasn’t the real me that he knew. You know me better than he ever could. He’s probably reading my articles and my blog wondering who in the hell has taken over my body.”
We both started laughing before he responded, “I guess you’re right. I’d love to see the look on his face though.”
“Me too,” I laughed, “That would be one priceless photo.”
“Want to go home yet?” he asked.
“Not really.” I rested my head on his chest and we continued laying there and enjoying the day. I can’t imagine the looks we were getting by people walking by on the sidewalk, but who cares. I heard a few of them taking pictures, but Taylor and I were able to completely block them out. We didn’t have to leave until we heard the paparazzi vehicles pulling up. Then Taylor took my hand and we ran back to our vehicle. When we got home we were still in the mood to rest so Taylor pulled me onto the couch with him and we laid down for a little while. Before I knew it, like always, I fell asleep.
