*This one-shot is between two cousins (you two are second cousins, which means he's your grandparent's sibling's grandkid) and if you don't like that you don't have to read this one. I got the idea from something Nick said and I thought I needed to write it*
"Hey watch out!" Ellis shouted, looking right behind you. The warning wasn't spoken fast enough, and he must've noticed because he instantly shot at whatever it was out of your vision. The single sniper shot made it fall dead to the ground and you looked over your shoulder to see what it was. A charger.
"Thanks." You called, making Ellis grin. Painful memories ran through your mind of the last time a charger plowed into you. It was coming from the other side of the room you were all in and had time to pick up speed before ramming into youーwho had chosen to take the lead not long beforeーand then proceeded to ram you into everyone else before finding a nice wall to crack your ribs against.
You all had to spend the next full day in the saferoom for you to recover enough to keep going, and Ellis was worried about you the whole time. You weren't surprised, you two were dating and he could worry about you as much as he wanted. You thought it was kinda cute (and the full half-day you spent in his arms was a huge bonus).
What the others didn't know about you two, was that you were cousins. They knew you had started dating before the apocalypse but not how you knew each other, not that details like that mattered anymore. Neither you nor Ellis thought to bring it up, it didn't matter anymore like I said.
You were racing through Whispering Oaks amusement park, the one Ellis said he'd gone to when he was younger. You thought you remembered coming here as well, but you weren't sure so you didn't say anything. Maybe Ellis and you could've come here on a date, you thought you remembered talking about it with him but your memory always seemed foggy about before the apocalypse. So much had changed and it was no use remembering the good ol' days when you didn't have to spend every second defending yourself to live a little longer, it would just make this whole thing seem that much worse.
You hurried past the carousel and into the Tunnel of Love, seeing Nick pause at the entrance for a moment before continuing out of the corner of your eye. You didn't think anything of it as you hurried inside. Nick shut and barred the door and you all took a moment to breathe. It always felt like you couldn't chance taking a break outside because as soon as you did, something would appear and you wouldn't be ready.
Almost as soon as the door was closed Nick whirled around, looking almost annoyed. "Let's keep going."
"Hold on, Nick," Coach held up a hand. "Let's all take a break first."
"I am not going to be trapped in some hillbilly Tunnel of Love," Nick muttered before raising his voice. "Did you see that sign out front? Cousins only day today." As Nick ranted about how stupid that was, Ellis exchanged an uncomfortable look with you but neither of you said anything. Unbeknownst to you, Coach and Rochelle both noticed the look. Nick was too busy being annoyed about where this apocalypse had landed him to notice the other's reaction to the statement.
"That's not that weird," you shrugged. Nick looked you up and down, talking in your casual teen outfit and shook his head. You didn't look like a redneck, so why'd you have to 'stick up' for them?
"That's very weird, and I don't want to be here a second longer." Proving his words were true, he marched towards the exit out of the safehouse and unbarred the door, tossing the object to the floor. He held up his weapon as he walked out; Coach and Rochelle sighed before following. You and Ellis took the back, separated from the others by a couple meters. As he walked alongside you he spoke.
