(Y/N)'s laughter could probably be heard from any infected in the surrounding 1 mile area, but to be honest, the story Ellis just shared about his buddy Keith deserved that much. Especially because the others in the group didn't find anything in the stories but endless noise that had no place in the apocalypse. (Y/N) felt tears come to her eyes as she smacked her knee, no sound making it past her lips anymore.
Ellis smiled brightly at seeing her reaction, completely ignoring the glare sent his way by a certain conman as the two others in the pack of survivors chose not to visibly react. (Y/N)'s eyes shone brighter as the light reflected off the water in them and her pearly white teeth appeared as clean as the fake teeth at the dentist. She was beautiful.
He didn't realize he was staring until Rochelle cleared her throat and shot him a look. He blushed lightly and glanced away from (Y/N) so she couldn't see his red face. She never got mad at him like the others when he tried to lighten the mood by telling stories. She had to be the sweetest thing in the world, even sweeter than his ma's apple pie.
A smile lit the southern boy's face as he remembered the apple pie; just the thought of the taste that flooded your mouth when you took a bite caused his mouth to water as he stared dreamily ahead. (Y/N) noticed his far-off look and leaned a little closer.
"What're you thinking about?" She asked, snapping him out of his day-dream.
"Apple pie," he sighed and swallowed to get rid of the saliva in his mouth. "My ma use ta make one every Sunday, it made the whole house smell amazin'! It was gon' befor' the crickets started chirpin', and Ma always scolded us fer eatin' it all. She'd say one day we'd get fat." Ellis chuckled as he looked down. "We never did get fat like Mama said."
(Y/N) couldn't help but to imagine her own mother doing that and laughed. "You were one lucky guy to get a mom like that."
"Ya think?" He looked down at her.
"Yeah," she rolled her eyes. "My mom was all business and wasn't usually home, so most of the time we just got takeout or ordered a pizza."
Ellis' eyes lit up. "Hey, did I eva tell ya 'bout the time Keith tried ta fit a whole pizza in his mouth?" Simultaneous groans came from the others as (Y/N) shook her head.
"Why did he do that?" And with that little prompting, Ellis launched into the story, much to the other's annoyance. However, Coach spotted a building up ahead that they could search for supplies and took the opportunity to shut Ellis up.
"Hey y'all, lookie here," Coach pointed with the gloved hand not holding his pump shotgun and Ellis quieted as everyone peered ahead to see what Coach did.
"Another house?" Nick snarled, earning a stern look from Rochelle.
"Supplies don't magically appear, Nick," Rochelle put her hand on her hip. "We have to look for them."
"I'm not going in another house today," Nick folded his arms and stood unmoving in front of the house as everyone reached it. The group had gone in numerous houses earlier that morning, as they had stumbled across a group of them, but the findings were discouraging. Rochelle sighed and dropped her hand from her side.
"I'd really rather not go in there either," she admitted, glancing to the side. She had stumbled across a room of infected earlier, and didn't realize they were all there until she stepped inside. This spooked her and she was a little jittery for a few minutes afterwards.
"Fine, it'll be us three then," Coach nodded at (Y/N) and Ellis, and they readied their weapons in response. Nick and Rochelle trotted off to find some shelter underneath a big tree as Coach kicked the door open and stepped inside. There was the option to go right or left at the entrance, so Coach went left and (Y/N) and Ellis went right.
(Y/N) turned on her flashlight as she was in front and scoped the room she walked into, which was pretty barren based off first glance. As she searched for something useful in a couple drawers, Ellis watched her with a smile creeping its way onto his face. It was impossible not to smile at her, she was just so cheery and beautiful and smart and kind-hearted and........
"Hey El, can you check on top of this dresser? I'm too short," (Y/N) called out, for the second time that day snapping him out of a daze. Ellis walked over to where she was standing and got on his toes to observe the top of said dresser.
"Jus' dust bunnies," he told her, to which she sighed.
"Well, thanks for checking," she flashed him a quick smile and turned to leave the room, but was stopped by a hand grabbing hers.
"Um, (Y/N)?" Ellis asked quietly, his voice shaking. At first she thought something was wrong, like he heard a Hunter growl, but when she faced him, he was avoiding her eyes and had a bright red blush on his cheeks. She couldn't help but smile at how cute he looked.
"Yes?"
"I, jus' thought, I....oh boy," he released her and took off his hat to run a hand through his hair. "This is hard," he mumbled.
"What is?" She tilted her head cutely, causing the words to spill out of his mouth.
"I wanted to tell ya I liked ya," he gushed, then sealed his lips shut and waited for a reaction apprehensively. That wasn't how he meant for it to come out, but he had completely forgotten the idea he had obtained while day-dreaming.
(Y/N) gazed up at him with a look he couldn't identify, and seeing as he was unsure, she smiled. He took this as a positive thing, but when she reached up to pull him down for a kiss, he would've let out a relieved sigh (cause she didn't reject him) if he wasn't so occupied.
He pulled her closer by her belt loops and she took off his hat, dropping it beside them so her hands could roam through his brown hair. His right hand moved under her shirt and settled on her waist while he gently pushed a stray lock of hair away from her face. She felt his tongue prod at her lips and she willingly gave him access. He explored the new territory and she shivered at the feeling, bringing her body closer to his.
"Try not to eat her face, overalls," a snarky voice commented from the doorway, surprising the couple into jumping and pulling apart. (Y/N) quickly wiped her mouth with her sleeve, blushing as red as the medkit on her back, while Ellis picked his hat off the ground and avoided looking at the three other survivors standing there. Rochelle wore a smirk, not something she often did, and Coach tried to withhold a grin. Nick walked over with a sarcastic smile and clapped Ellis on the back like he was the conman's son.
"L-Let's just go," (Y/N) pushed past Rochelle and Coach as Nick said something taunting to Ellis. Rochelle followed after her with what could only be described as a skip in her step.
"How was it? It had to be good, we were standing there for a full minute," Rochelle asked, slowing to a fast walk as (Y/N) tried to get away from the teasing of the others.
"Sh-Shut up," (Y/N)'s face got redder as she picked up her speed to a trot. Coach followed after Nick and Ellis as they left, talking about something that had Ellis' hands over his face. Coach chuckled to himself seeing as the others teased the couple, and with a shrug, he decided to join in on the fun. He'd never seen Ellis nor (Y/N)'s face so red, and he was curious to see how red they could possibly get.
