Memory 86

I met your dad once, by accident. I was in a town two hours away, working with accounting reports at one of the diners. It had been pouring, unusual for that time of the year. Your dad saw me first. His resemblance to you and your sister was not in the way you guys looked but how each of you carried yourself with an ingrained sense of confidence. He sat down next to me and in a way that was kind of awe-inspiring. You loved the man even if he tried to send you to conversion camp, he was the one who made you the man that you are and for that, I would be grateful.

"You know my boy?" he asked.

I nodded, not too sure what he wanted from me but unwilling to make a scene.

"Look after him for me will you."

I couldn't stop myself from asking, "Why can't you do that."

"Bad blood, when you get older you will understand."

I said no more but rather listened to his stories about you and your sister. Wondering why your relationship could have gotten so bad and hoping you guys would reconcile. He was a man who had made mistakes and now he was going away. You would never know the guilt he carried or how much he thought the world of you.

A/N: Parents make mistakes, children make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes are ones that are not allowed to be made.
