Joseph's POV

"Home sweet home," I said to myself as I entered my house. Not gonna lie, it felt like an eternity in the hospital, but I'm just glad I was able to stay within a month or so. Now I can stretch my legs and go back home once more which is just great.

I quickly entered my room, dropped my backpack on the floor, and threw myself to my bed. I pulled out my phone, put on my earplugs to hear some music I enjoyed. I layed in bed for a bit when I turned to my desk and see a picture. I stood up, walked towards it, and took a closer look at the picture.

I

smiled. It's a picture of when my stepdad showed me how to drive an motorcycles. I used to loved it when I was little and so did he. "I miss you dad," I said to myself. I sighed and put the picture back in its place. That's when I felt something. I turned to my backpack. For some reason, I felt drawn to it. I took off my earplugs and walked toward my backpack. I grabbed it and put it on my bed. I opened it and took out my Maze Runner book, my sketch book, and the rest of what I had in it. That's when I found a black box with red markings.

I instantly got curious. When did I have this box and where did I get it? That's when I remembered.

Flashback to Jose's farewell

"Wow, I can't believe this is goodbye," I said. "Yeah, I know. It honestly felt like yesterday I just got here. Guess time flies doesn't it," said Jose, a great friend and leader. "Ya know, we're gonna miss you and all that you've done for us," I said trying to crack a smile. "Yeah I know, and I'll miss you too," he said. "Well, I guess this is goodbye," I said, looking down. "Now wait just a second," he said suddenly. "I need to give you something," he said getting a small black box out of his pockets. "What is it?" I asked. He smirked. "You'll know when the time is right," he said, handing it to me. I looked at it for a second. "Just know this. I want you to become something more than just a ranger. I want you to be you," he said, pausing for a second. "When I leave this island, I'm leaving it unprotected. That's why I want you to protect this place, with every last breath that you have. Promise me this. Ok," he said. I looked at him, determined. "Right, I won't let you down," I said. He smiled. "I know you won't," he said.

Back to the present

I looked at it and grabbed a hold on it. I took a deep breath and opened it. There was a watch inside, almost like the one Jose had but black and red. I put it on, walked towards the mirror, and looked at it. Just then, a light came from it and with it, a figure. The same figure I saw in my coma. I tripped and hit myself against the side of the bed. "W- What the-," I said just before a book hit my head. OW! "It's me, Scales," the figure said. "Scales?" I said. "You know, the figure in your coma. Geez, you really do have a short memory span," said Scales. I groaned as I stood up. "Yeah, I remember you," I said, rubbing my head in where the book hit me. "Where the hell did you even come from?" I asked. "I came from the watch that you're wearing. Anyway, it's my turn to talk and for you to listen," Scales said. "Uh, ok?" I said confused.

"Alright, first things first, I'm something called a Kwami. A kwami can grant its user unbelievable power. Now you're power is darkness and everything that comes with it, got it?" Said Scales. "Uh, ok? Well that explains that. But that still doesn't explain how-," I said without even finishing my sentence. "-I know who you are? Well you were chosen to be my 'Partner', I was given the chance to know more about you and your history. For example, I know you were given the title of the black ranger, the partical exelorator incident, and of course your relationship with Annaliz," stated Scales. "Wow. Stalker much," I said. "Hey! It isn't stalking if I'm trying to get to know you," said Scales. "Right, well you're like Jose's Kwami. Um, Aragin was it?" I said. "Yeah, sort of. He's Love, I'm Darkness. We're different," Scales said. "Right well, I made a promise, and I'm gonna keep it. You with me?" I said. Scales smirks and nods. "Good then let's do this," I said, standing up.

"SCALES, LIGHTS OUT!"
