"Alright," Richard started, "Here's the plan. We've got to get to the central control platform, which will control the main gate. There are 52 platforms in total, so we spread out, in teams of 2. If you see any switch or lever that's labeled 'main gate' or just 'gate', you need to pull that switch."
I gazed out at the Red Kingdom's capitol's walls. A Green Kingdom spy informed us this mourning that the Green Kingdom army, along with the newly liberated Gray Kingdom had breeched the Red Kingdom's main walls. Now, rumors has it that they were camped just outside those walls, waiting for us to finish the job.
The walls themselves seemed complicated enough. The thick walls were around 2-3 meters thick, with watchtowers here and there. Cannons were placed every 3 meters apart, facing the outside. Unfortunately, those walls stretched all around the city, meaning we would have to search every watchtower, which was, 52 in total.
We had around 15 soldiers left, which was enough for 5 groups of 3. We would have to search the walls for around 5 hours to find the switch. It was around sunset now, and the soldiers were still patrolling the walls. I had a feeling that with the enemy so close, they weren't going to take the night off.
The city itself was once beautiful. Now, traces of our last invasion, and the current siege had taking its toll. The small lake in the center of the city was full of ashes and dust. Many buildings now laid in ruins, while many were on fire, but nobody seemed to notice or care.
The only building that was still in perfect condition was Ivor's palace. I could tell right away that it wasn't an ordinary home. It was immense, bigger and taller than even the city walls. At the top of the tower, was a circle with a curved line through it. The symbol of darkness.
Even weirder, there wasn't a Red Kingdom flag flying from the city banners or walls, it was the symbol of darkness. This wasn't a city anymore, everyone inside was controlled by the dark force.
"Lenard? You listening buddy?" Hal said, waving a hand in front of my face.
"Um, ya." I said, nodding my head, "Sure. So teams of 3 right? We search the watchtowers and hope we're lucky."
"Exactly, that's our objective," Richard said, pointing in the distance, "The main gate. Once the gates are open, our armies can flood in, and end this damn war."
Slowly, we started to crawl out of the alley that we were camping in. It was an abandoned block of the city, but we still had to take our precautions. With our hood on, and a bag over our shoulder, we could blend in quit well with the random other citizens strolling around.
The only problem was, if Ivor could sense all of the people that he controls, he could easily whiff us out. I kept one hand rested on the hilt of Loth just in case something unexpected happened.
Just as we were starting to split up, I saw something flashy in the corner of my eye. I glanced at that direction and saw Antitso. He and the Masked soldiers were flanking Ivor, who was marching towards the tower.
"You guys go ahead," I said to Richard, "I need to do something real quick."
"You sure?" Richard called out, but I had already left.
I pushed through the crowd until I was beside the tower. A pair of guards stood beside the door, and wouldn't let anyone through. I was started to make a plan, when one of the soldiers, who didn't have dark eyes, randomly grabbed me and pushed me through the door.
"Save the Red Kingdom," He whispered in my ear before he left.
Before he left, I caught a look at the emblem on his shield. It was still the Red Kingdom emblem, not the symbol of Darkness that every other soldier had. He must have been one of Antitso's troops that was still loyal to the Red Kingdom.
