A few seconds passed before I realized what was going on. I raised my shield to deflect the shot, but it never came. I peeked my eyes over the shield and noticed that the metal ball was suspended in the air, not moving. It was encased in some weird light.
"Lenard," Richard said, "Look at Loth..."
I drew the sword and noticed that it was glowing the same colour as the light encasing the metal shell. Conex realized what I was going to do a second before I did. His eyes widened and he dove to the side, but it was too late. I thrusted my hand forwards and willed the light to shut off at the same time. Conex crumbled to the ground with his own bullet implanted into his shoulder.
I waited to him to bleed, or at least order his troops to attack me, but that moment never came. Instead, he simply climbed back onto his feet and pulled the bullet out of his own shoulder. With a shock, I realized that he was being controlled by The Dark Force.
"It would take a lot more than that to kill me, Lenard," He mused, "I would like to introduce you to my elite force. I call them the Masked. Our enemies call them death."
Behind him, the 50 warriors that I saw slowly drew 2 short swords. Their swords were encased in the dark mist and the mist leaked so badly out of their eyes that it started to swarm towards us. I raised Loth and suddenly, a barrier of light appeared between us and the Red Kingdom soldiers.
Without another word, all 50 of the soldiers charged at the barrier at once. Within a few seconds, they collided with it. The barrier glowed and pushed them back, but they weren't going to give up easily. They smashed back into the barrier, and slashed it with their swords.
Every time they attacked the barrier, there was a force hitting me, like someone was repeatedly punching my gut. After about the third time they attacked, the barrier gave away. We backed up until our backs were to the colourful birds nests with the glowing lava underneath us.
"Alright guys," Hal shouted a couple seconds before the Red Kingdom soldiers hit us, "I don't know about you guys, but I'm not going to die in some cave to a couple weirdos in masks. Let's give them hell!"
He brandished his double bladed battle ax, and charged towards the enemy with our little vanguard trailing behind him. I drew Loth and swung at the enemies. I was in battle plenty of times, but this time, it seemed weird.
These new Masked enemies seemed insanely powerful and swift. They could also take lots of hits. I saw, out of the corner of my eye, a masked enemy grab a Green Kingdom soldier and hurled him off the ledge, along with himself.
I grabbed the straps of one enemy soldier and hurled him off the ledge as well. Another Masked soldier charged me with a heavy mace, but I ducked under his swing and kicked him over the edge as well.
I was feeling pretty confident about this one. I had already taken out 2 Masked opponents hardly trying. My next opponent proved me wrong. He brandished his short swords and swung at me. Although Loth was plenty longer and had a nice magical bling to it, my masked opponent wasn't going to give up easily.
He swung his sword at my head and I grabbed his wrist. He used his other hand and slashed across my sword hand. I retreated to the edge of the boardwalk and attempted to blast him with my sword. Loth started to glow and heat up, and the opponent seemed to know what was happening.
He crossed his swords together and the blast of light hit his swords directly. I expected him to go flying, and maybe vaporize in the blast, after all, even Ivor had trouble blocking it, but he seemed to handle the blast with ease.
