As soon as Conex was thrown into the lava far below, I suddenly felt tired. I leaned on Loth and nearly fell into the lava myself. My vision became clear again and I collapsed onto the floor of the chamber.
"Lenard!" Hal yelled as he ran over, helping me stand back up, "What was that?"
"Your eyes started to glow like crazy," Richard recalled, "Then you just walked towards Conex and nobody was insane enough to stop you. Then, all of a sudden, you just collapsed."
"Wow, really Richard?" I replied, "I didn't know that."
Soon, after the help of a couple band-aids and a swig of emergency water, I was back on my feet. I was still feeling a little light headed though, since I used Loth's abilities quite a lot in that battle.
"Alright, lets get out of here," Richard said, "We still have a long way to go."
"Wait a second," I said, looking down at one of the masked soldiers, "We can search these people. I'm still thirsty as hell and I'm sure the soldiers feel the same way. These people have to be carrying water if their traveling through the desert right?"
After a while of searching and rummaging around their packs, we found out to our delight that there were 2 bottles of water that each soldier was carrying. Our soldiers practically went crazy and started to pour the entire thing down their throats.
"You think Conex's is still alive?" I said, gazing down at the lava as I took a long drink of water
"Of course not," Richard said, "Nobody could survive a fall that deep, much less with lava at the bottom. I'm sure he died."
I nodded and started to walk back, but noticed something blocking my path. It was Conex's gun. He had dropped it once he had run out of ammo, I recalled. I picked up the weapon and examined it.
"Hey," I said, calling Hal and Richard over, "If we can copy these weapons somehow, think of how powerful we can be. Send this back to the Green Kingdom. See if the scientists there can figure out how to duplicate or copy this. "
"Alright," Hal said, taking the weapon, "That reminds me, Lenard, what do we do with the phoenix? We can't exactly leave them there, since the chamber is unstable from our fight. We can't exactly take them with us either."
"There's not much we can do," I said, looking at the majestic birds, "If they want to stay, there's nothing we can do to stop that. We can't force them out either."
"Try your sword," Hal advised, "It worked during the battle, don't see why it won't work now. And who knows? Maybe they'll even give us a ride or something."
I didn't feel like my swords would do anything, but I decided to give it a try anyways. I reluctantly drew Loth and help it in front of me and tried to talk to the phoenix. Pretty sure that I looked like an idiot, but it was my only choice.
"Hey, " I decided to start with, "Phoenix bird things. Um, so how about you give us a ride to the Havoc mountains, or something? Maybe turn of your fire, so we don't burn?"
The bird closest to me cocked its head at an angle and stared at me for a while. After about a minute or so of staring at each other, it lowered its back and turned in my direction so I could easily climb onto its back.
"I think you can go on now..." Richard said, looking at the bird, "Just try not to fall off or you might die."
"Gee, thanks for the encouragement," I replied, walking towards the birds.
