"Fuck you, asshole!"
Tears stream down your face as you run out of the house, looking for a safe spot to stay, without your cheating fiancée or that tramp you found him with looking for you.
It was getting dark, and fear started to go down your spine. The summer heat doesn't help to keep you cool, leaving you sweating as you run for what seems like miles.
As you run, something seems to catch your eyes.
The treehouse.
Your old friends, Gordie, Vern, Teddy and Chris would hide there and play card games all the time. You would join them, only because you were Gordie's sister.
Now, no one goes there anymore. Gordie, Vern and Teddy all went to college.
But you didn't hear anything about Chris.
Some of the elders say that he went to jail, just like his brother, but the thoughts are a mere passerby to you.
Racing to the door, you then remember.
Who the hell is gonna let me in?
Curiously, you knock the secret knock (it was made up when the five of you would go up here) and wait.
A minute goes by, and you shake your head. I'm such an idiot. No one's going to be in here.
As soon as you get to the door though, it opens.
And just like that, Chris Chambers is face to face with you after 18 years."Chris?"
He starts to blush, and scratches the back of his neck nervously."Hey, (Y/N)..."
His voice is deep and velvet smooth, and evidently grew up some. His blonde hair is now slicked back and is devilishly handsome. You couldn't believe it.
"Chris, you changed so much."
He motions for you to come inside, and you do. He hoists you up and you notice his tan muscles flex in the faint light as you enter the treehouse.
"I guess I have. Are you okay? I saw you running all the way here, but I didn't know what it was for."
The treehouse looks the same. Comic books are in stacks. A picture of the five of you from the newspaper hangs on the memorabilia wall. Even the radio that Gordie had kept for so long lays untouched.
"I...was running from my... fiancée. He was chasing after me, because I saw him cheating on me with some bitch..."
Chris looks at you solemnly, eyebrows furrowed and eyes full of concern as you finish your story.
"I'm so sorry that you needed to go through this. That's almost as bad as what happened with my father and I."
I smile sadly. Chris' father had always been abusive. Chris would usually come to the treehouse with bruises all over and a split lip frequently.
"So..."
Your attempt to break the ice is not working, since Chris looks out the window, looking awkwardly embarrassed by his company.
"Tell me about you, Chris. What's been happening?"
He sighs and soon tells you all about how he finished college and how his father had passed away, and watching his brother, Richard get arrested.
"It hasn't been easy for me. And coming back here seems harder without all of the guys around anymore. All of the good times just...seemed to be gone with the wind by the time we hit high school."
He pauses and chuckles, a hint of a smile appears on his face.
"It's like all of the secrets we all kept seem to be pouring out before me."
You look up at him and smile.
"(Y/N), I guess this isn't exactly how I wanted to say this. I should have done this years ago, but..."
He leans over and kisses you on the lips.
At that moment, everything seems perfect. It seems like everything just stopped and paused for 10 seconds. When he pulled back, he smiles and whispers, "I should have told you that I loved you, and even now, I still do."
Oh my god.
OH MY GOD."Chris!" You jump on top of him and he kisses you, laughing at your smiles as you hug him with all your might.
A sudden tear falls out of his eye, causing you to stop.
"Chris, what's wrong?"
He stares at you and chuckles.
"It's nothing," He says, wiping the tear from his eye with a single swipe, "I'm just really happy...."
You kiss him on the nose and smile softly.
"I'm really happy too."
