#11 - Ace Merrill

You and Ace have been dating for about 2 years now, and wanted to do something special for your anniversary. ((your anniversary is on the 4th of July, idk))

So, you decided to steal some blackberry liquor from your father's cabinet and climb up to the roof with Ace to watch the fireworks. ((idk what liquor tastes like, i just put that there, don't judge))

"Thanks, babe," says Ace, who is lying down on the roof as he takes the bottle and drinks some.

"Hey, leave some for me!" You say, whining. Ace laughs, and pulls you in close to him. You can feel the laughter in his chest and his heartbeat which keeps getting faster and faster.

It's almost dark and you and Ace are lying on the roof, talking about your future plans for the summer.

"...Ace, you know that Castle Rock is my only vacation. Nowhere else. It's just my parents that go to California in the car to see family."

"I know. It just seems like I'm never gonna get out of this town."

He lights a cigarette and offers you one, which you take. He lights it for you and you continue your conversation.

"Ace, what do you wanna be when you're older?"

He chuckles. "What are we, five?"

You laugh and wait for his answer.

Exhaling, he says, "I don't know. Maybe I'll go into the army or shit like that. Or just stay in Castle Rock all my life with the Cobras and bug the four dimwits that can't take no for a fucking answer."

He nods towards four boys that you seem to immediately recognize. ((guess who)) They had their faces in the paper for finding Ray Brower last summer, and it occurs to you that one of them is Eyeball's brother, Chris.

They're lighting fireworks. Or at least three of the four boys are. One of them is backing out slightly, scared to go near.

One of them says, "Come Verno! Give us a hand! We don't have all day!"

The scared boy slightly gives in and ends up letting the fireworks loose.

The three boys turn to Vern and groan: "VERN!!"

You and Ace are laughing hysterically as the fireworks are set free and all in different colors and it is all a beautiful view.

The four boys are laughing and whooping at the sky. The kid with the glasses seems to be jumping on top of a car screaming, Chris is smiling with a boy with brown bangs, arm around him, and Vern is just laughing at it all, proud of his accidental mistake.

You turn to Ace and smile. He wraps his arms around you and kisses you on the nose.

"Happy anniversary, babe," he whispers in your ear.
