Jacob and I walked in a bar and immediately realized that it was karaoke night by the fact that someone was singing The House Is A Rocking by Stevie Ray Vaughan, though totally out of tune.
"Wanna just go find somewhere else?" Jacob asked as he winced when the guy singing cracked.
"Nah, let's stick around. This could be fun." I smiled as I shrugged my jacket off and walked over to the bar, took a seat at one of the empty stools, and ordering two beers. As the bartender set the drinks down, I laid down a ten and handed Jacob his drink, before turning around to look up at the stage. By then the guy before had stumbled off stage and some chick was crooning out I've Got the World on a String.
"She's not that bad." I said as I took a sip of my beer.
"Yeah, if you like that sorta stuff." Jacob muttered as he took a sip of his drink.
"I do." I said with a smile as I crossed my legs and leaned back against the counter. Jacob looked over at me with arched eyebrows and a surprised look on his face.
"You do?" he asked.
"Yes, Jacob. I do. I like all kinds of music." I informed him.
"Hmm, good to know." He murmured as he took a sip of his beer.
"I guess." I shrugged as I set my beer on the countertop. Just then the song ended and a guy with curly dark brown hair, a dark red shirt, and dark jeans got onstage as the girl put her mic back in the stand.
"Give it up for Andi, guys." The guy said as he stepped up to the mic and clapped as he watched the girl walk off stage, a blush coating her cheeks as she disappeared towards her table again.
"Now, anyone up to entertaining us? Anyone?" the guy asked as he looked at the crowd.
"I'll be back." I smiled as I stood up. I just heard Jacob chuckle softly as I made my way towards the stage and climbed on.
"Well, it looks like we got us another pretty lady to sing for us. What's your name, darling?" he asked me as I walked over to the guy.
"Ronnie." I smiled as I stopped next to him.
"All right. Give it up for Ronnie." He said to the crowd. I smiled as they all politely clapped, before telling the guy my song. He smiled and nodded, before jumping off the stage. A minute later, I heard the familiar intro to Wish You Were by Kate Voegele and started tapping my foot to the rhythm as I took hold of the mic. I then rested my eyes on Jacob in the back and started singing.
Gone away are the golden days
Just a page in my diary
So here I am a utopian citizen
I'm still convinced
There's no such thing as idealism
Memories they're following me like a shadow now
And I'm dreamin'
Cause I've already suffered the fever of disbelief
I've seen your act
And I know all the facts
I'm still in love with who I wish you were
It ain't hard to see
Who you are underneath
I'm still in love with who I wish you were
And I wish you were here
As I took a breath after the chorus, I could see an amazed and slightly dazed look on Jacob's face as he watched me. It made me smile more as I continued on with the song, focusing in on him like he was doing to me.
