Chapter four
———————
||•dinner with The Browns•||

"Someone grab the wine and the flowers while the other get the cake from the fridge. Thank you," Mum ordered. I filled her in on Mrs Brown's dinner invitation.

"Ferry hurry up. She's always taking her damn time." Mum stayed complaining wholeheartedly. Ferry came down within seconds. We locked the doors and left.

I was supposed to go with Pops to the hospital for his check up tomorrow. I totally forgot all about it. Every time I wanted to spend some quality time with my parents, they're either busy or I was busy. Pops check ups are very important and he needed my support but he always wanted me to put classes and work as main priorities.

"Pops, I'm so sorry I can't make it to your check up tomorrow, I have an in class mid-test." I should've told him in advance but it skipped my mind.

"That's okay baby. Good luck on your mid-test." I wanted to get it over and done with. Hopefully work doesn't call me in for the entire day.

We arrived and Tee opened the door and greeted us. Mum gave him a kiss on the cheeks. I was about to enter the house when he decided to place his hand across the door's space.

"Boy, I don't have time for your games this afternoon, with that being said, control yourself. I repeat. Especially those hands at the family dinner. Thank you." I pushed his hand off and walked in.

"Feisty." He smirked.

"What took you two so long?" Mr Brown asked.

"Just your son being his annoying self." He laughed and commented on how cute we were.

"The way this generation shows love these day. They fight, seemed to hate each other. We all know it's love." Mr Brown said and everyone laughed except for Tee and I

"I really don't know what you guys are talking about."

"Same." Tee agreed.

Aroma of the the food is dreamy. We sat around the table, as usual, I was sitting next to him. My pops started the conversation by asking Mr Brown.

"So Jonathan, have you given the offer some thought?"

"I have, it was very generous of you to offer such a position. Unfortunately, I want to explore other positions." My dad offered him the management role at Magoro Kontrol; the family business.

"You've seemed to be exploring a lot. Like out of your marriage for instant. Yes I found out. Don't even try to deny it because I've known about it for a while?" Mrs Brown blurted out of nowhere. It took everyone by surprise. As for Tee and I, not so much.

Ferry's face said, "what?!" And my parents put down their forks and knives in shock. Ever felt so hungry that you don't care what the situation is? That was how hungry my best friend and I was.

Their full attention was now turned to us. Tee and I looked at each other, we knew what the parents would say. "Tyron, Fenty, go to your room," we both said it together for them. Anything is predictable with this family.

****

"Took them long enough to find out," I sighed. He nodded. I laid down on the bed and so did he.

At first we suspected Mr Brown of cheating by following him around everywhere. One day he went to a hotel and into a room with a young lady roughly twenty five. We didn't have access to prove our allegations of course but we had a mate working there.

Apparently he was coming to that hotel every three days a week of the past two months. I didn't know why someone would ruin something good. I guess marriage was not what it seemed.

Tee and I tried our hardest to bring the whole situation which was hard for us to our parents' attention but we got yelled at. My mum was going off at us saying we were accusing an innocent man and we should be ashamed.

"The both of you watch too many movies and that is  the problem. Do you want to ruin a good marriage?" We left it as it was. Black parents are hardheaded and stubborn.

They make you look like the bad guy even when you're trying to help them or do good deeds.

All we could hear from downstairs was yelling. "Jonathan you are selfish, all you think about is yourself"- Mrs Brown carried on.

"So what you wanna do?" Tee asked me.

"Mind my business—Please do not touch my hair. Have you ever heard of personal space?"

"It's cute when you stutter." I quickly pulled away from him.

"You need to have some respect for what your mother is going through right now bro, be sympathetic." I said.

"Bro? Really? Don't say stuff like that, it's weird."

"Since when," he didn't say anything. "Anyways be on the couch or get out. I'm tryna take a nap." He rolled his eyes and went on the couch.

"This kicking me out of my own bed is becoming a habit."

"And I thought you'd be used to it by now."

The yelling downstairs took ages. My hunger for Mrs Brown's food eased. I just wanted to sleep.

"But I'm bored"-

"Boy do not disturb my nap or you'll have me to deal with." I didn't even let him finish. Suddenly I was in peace.

That's what I thought.

***
Remember when you were a kid and you would find yourself in your own bed, not knowing how you got there? Yeah that didn't happen to me, I woke up in Tee's bed.

I could tell by the sheets, pillow and a blanket that he slept on the couch. I think everyone forgot about us. Some might've slept and some left without their daughter.

I quickly took a shower and changed into Tee's top and shorts. I made my way downstairs for breakfast. I was so hungry. I couldn't blame myself, must be the fact that nobody didn't have a chance to finish their food last night.

"Good morning sweetie, here's your breakfast," Mrs Brown passed me bacon and eggs. It was followed by a glass of orange juice.

I quickly ate my food, sculled my drink. I couldn't wait to finish and find out what happened.

Mrs Brown was just smiling at me. "Sorry," I said.

"It's okay baby eat up."
