Chapter eleven

||•What your mama made•||"Good morning Moochi," Pops greeted me. I saw food on the kitchen bench. I went straight for it. Bacon looked so good. "What's good family." I ate the food in an hurry. Family all laughing at me. "You'll choke sis, easy."
"I don't remember asking you to talk Fur." I ate some more. Scull the orange juice after. And headed out.
By the time I was five minutes further from the house, Pops came to mind. I forgot to ask him how he was doing. He went to the hospital yesterday to get checked up. Work and uni got me very busy.
I'll just talk to him after uni, if I don't get call in for a shift.

"Hey Princess," Tee was behind me. Tadiwa was all up holding his hand. I shouldn't worry, it's none of my business. It's somehow irritating.
"What's up." I was distracted by getting my bag out of the car. Now the b-tch had to open her mouth to greet me but at this point I don't even give a f-ck about her. She can keep her greetings. I'm not at work, can't tolerate mean girls out of high school. Any unnecessary behaviour after high school is stupidity and childishness.
I left them behind and off to my friends.
"Y'all I have three essays to complete and online assessments in two weeks. Study this afternoon?""I'm down, and we can edit each other's essays we've completed," Keke said. Everyone else nodded. We walked in our first class.
My phone buzzed. The message reads "Nando's on me after your class."
"Studying with the squad."
"Maybe after then?"
"Tryna spend time with Pops later."
"That's aight, I'll bring the Nando's over."
"Or you still avoiding me?" He followed up his next text."Nah I'm not avoiding, see you then."

"B-tch you tryna expose the entire African parents?" We all laughed. Kathrine's essays based on the four parenting styles. "It's what the articles say not me. If anything, Tyson Godson, Rebecca Brooks and more done exposed them. Literally hundred percent of African Americans whoop their kids asses. We call it discipline but white folks call it abuse."
"Facts," Nick agreed without any elaboration. There's eight of us including me. But when Tee joins, it's nine..don't forget Tadiwa, that's ten. Definitely nine of us.
"Guys I gotta go hang out with my Pops. Nick, I'll email you your essay after going through it."
I don't have work today but I can get called in for a shift anytime. Hopefully not anytime today. I've missed my old man even though we live in the same house. Mum mostly FaceTime me on my breaks. And we catch up sometimes at her work place.
"How's he doing anyways," Nick asked. everyone else were also in wonder. "I haven't actually ask. Just been really busy but I will let y'all know. Bye."
There was no one home but a note and Tee's weird juice on the kitchen bench. "Moochi, I've taken your Pops to the hospital for a check up again, the doctor called. Don't worry all is well. Don't touch Tyron's PineGo. Love mum." Mum buys this juice for Tee and he loves it.
Before I could think of something to do, Tee arrived coming in the house like he owns it as always. We're all used to it. He's part of our family after all.
"I'm so hungry," he said, sitting on the couch.
"I'll check if mum made your favourite."
"She definitely has," he got up from the couch, glancing me up and down giving me a seductive look.
Boy if you don't stop.
"You been weird all day. I said I was sorry about the other day. You want us to talk?" I kept backing away because he persisted on coming closer.
"What...nah ain't nothing like that plus we all good." My voice somehow broke. Made me sound pathetic and weak.
"Then why you backing away. You uncomfortable?"
Smirking, smiling, chuckling—weakness
"Try...trying...to get you food," I managed to push the last words out. Why was he doing this...God.
"My food is right here."
All twenty years of friendship, I've never felt anything toward him. I don't understand what was happening. I don't know how we've all of a sudden made it to the kitchen bench. He leaned in and reached for his juice.
Wooooow
"On a second thought, I'm not hungry anymore. It's Friday tomorrow. Let me find you ready......oh and"— he turned around and realised I was still frozen, he gave me that devilish look.
"Tell Mama Ferry I said thank you for my PineGo."
Puff he was gone. I hate him.
