Chapter seventeen
——————————
||•The funeral arrangements•||

Someone was knocking on the door. And I wondered who was knocking on the door this early. As my eyes met with the clock, it pointed to two pm. Never mind, I overslept next to Ferry after following her in the dark around our neighbourhood.

For some reason Ferry gets up in the morning at three am. I think this had started during the time I locked myself in my room. I followed after her to the park where my parents used to take us to as kids. I tried talking to her, she didn't answer and fulled on ignored me.

I decided to keep quite because there is no use. I just sat next to her on the swing.

"Good morn—I mean good afternoon Mrs Brown. Sorry we overslept." I carried the shopping bags to the kitchen.

"Hello sweetie," she greeted me back and so did Tee. She straight away went into the kitchen to prepare food. I was about to tell her she didn't need to but then again she had always felt the need to feed us even when my parents were still here. She is like a second mum to us.

"Has Furry been sleeping in your parents' room," she asked as Ferry walked out of the room. I nodded. She gave a pity look.

"Hey Mrs B, how are you?" Ferry came into the kitchen to give her a hug.

Her food had always smelled nice. I remember coming to her house with Tee after school and the food greeting our noses from afar. We would rush inside and quickly take our shoes off. Running for the table like there was no tomorrow.

The waiting is five minuets every time. Mr Brown would be watching news standing with his arms behind him. He had always watched news like he was taking notes. Same situation for my Pops and I was pretty sure eighty percent of the dads out there.

"The funeral has been moved to tomorrow. I went to your uncle's house yesterday as Tee might've mentioned," she said bringing me back from the daydreaming land to reality. We were all sitting by the kitchen bench.

Mrs Brown gave us all empty plates with spoons and cups. She poured us orange juice each. Then scooped us spicy and hot fried rice.

"Why has the funeral been moved to a different time for, especially without consulting us with the arrangements?"

I agreed with Ferry on this and by the look of it, Tee does too.

"That's a load of BS," Ferry said a little louder this time.

Okay that I don't agree with. Never raise your voice or speak anyhow to a black mum.

"Child I will whoop your ass, never talk to me that way. If you wanna shout at someone, go shout at your uncle. If it wasn't for me the funeral would've been today. I don't know why your uncle must rush everything."

We all went mute. Ferry you better apologise with your disrespectful ass.

"I'm sorry Mrs B. It will not happen again." Tee and I let out a deep breath at the same time.

"Good, now eat your damn food." She didn't have to tell us twice.

"Mrs Brown. What time is the funeral tomorrow?" I asked. The way she looked at me, caused me to look on the floor. She remind me of my mum. Whenever she was upset with someone, the next person to call out her name always got the cold look—what do you want idiot. She would say.

"It's eleven thirsty am not pm. Matter fact give all your phones. I will set up your alarms, including you Tyron, I'm not going home with you tonight. I have business to attend to with your dad." We all nodded and handed her our phones.

I couldn't help but say, "ouuuu Mrs Brown that's the excuse ladies use to"— she was staring at me like I dare you to finish, I dare you to finish.

"Never mind." I went back to eating my food. Tee and Ferry started giggling, even Mrs Brown had a smile on her face.

"As I was saying, I will come and pick you all up. Be ready by then. And your next question might concern who's coming. So I will answer." Good because I don't appreciate random people crying at our parents funeral.

"Family and family friends. Some of your relatives had already flew in yesterday. We will all meet at the funeral tomorrow." She continued.

"How is uni going," I asked Tee. I haven't been to uni for almost four weeks now. The way I was falling behind in everything was crazy. But I can't think of uni right now.

"It's alright, I haven't been for a week. I went yesterday but I couldn't concentrate. Mum personally also went to uni to explain our situation to the administration." How nice of Mrs Brown. It had skipped both Ferry and I minds.

"Thanks Mrs Brown." I smiled at her and she nodded with love.

"Yeah thank you Mrs B. Don't know what we'd do without you." Ferry added.

"You guys are my babies. And I love you all equally." We mad a awww sound. Then she said stop it and up she got up.

"I'm going to the store with Ferry to buy the remaining of the stuff for the funeral. Please look out for each other." Poof they left.

I examine Tee who was uncomfortable and staring at the floor for some reason. "N*gga what's up with you?" I asked. He just shrunk.

Oh well.

I scrolled through Netflix hoping to find a movie I haven't seen. Everyone always talk about The Notebook—why not.

It was a bit chilly. I went and got me a blanket from upstairs. I snuggled my blanket underneath Tee's arm. Laying on his chest. All I could hear was his heartbeat. I played my movie anyways.

"You know the TV is that way right?" I pointed to the direction of the TV. Why was he staring at me for. He didn't say anything. My attention was turned back to the movie. Five minutes later I was looking up at him.

He.
Looked.
Yummy.

I quickly faced the TV when he looked down to me with his brown eyes.

Don't do it. I repeat. Don't do it.
