"Ang gwapo mo talaga ... oo, ikaw nga. Wala nang iba ... ikaw ang pinaka-gwapo. You deserve everything in the world." RJ said, looking at his own reflection in the bathroom mirror. He then reached for a comb and started working on his hair, wanting to make sure he will look perfectly suave for the party. Suddenly, his phone started ringing. He grunted but left the bathroom anyway to answer the call.
"Hey, man. How are you?" he asked his friend named Carter.
"I'm good. Where are you? The party's about to start," Carter replied. RJ grinned and said he was already on the way.
"You sure?"
"Yes. Don't worry okay? I'll be there."
"Good." Carter answered and ended the call. RJ placed the phone down and walked towards his perfume collection. He pulled his favorite out off the bunch and sprayed some on himself a few times. His phone then lit up and rang once again. RJ quickly picked it up and saw his ex's name on the screen.
"Kristine." He whispered before accepting the call.
"Hello? RJ?" she asked right away.
"Ugh, wrong timing ... what do you want?"
"Open your front door."
"Why?"
"Just open it, will you?"
RJ left the room and went downstairs. He took a deep breath and opened the front door, only to see Kristine on the other side with a small boy resting his head on her shoulder.
"How did you get in?"
"The gate's open."
"What do you want?" he asked.
"Pwedeng pumasok muna?"
"Fine." He mumbled before rolling his eyes at her. Kristine carefully laid the little boy on the couch before she turned around to face him.
"Now, what do you want?"
"Pwedeng uminom muna nang tubig?" she asked.
"Ginulo mo ako para lang makiinom ng tubig?" he asked back, ready to kick her and the little boy out of his house.
"What? No! Nauuhaw lang talaga ako, I swear."
"Fine, go to the kitchen now. And when you come back, tell me the real reason why you came."
"Okay." She said. Kristine placed her bag on the table and disappeared into the kitchen. Two minutes later, she returned and sat right on the chair in front of him.
"Okay, speak." RJ commanded.
"Fine ... see that little boy over there?" she asked and pointed at the kid.
"Yeah."
"He's your son."
His mouth fell open. He glanced at the boy once again and immediately noticed some similarities between their physical features.
"What the fuck? You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're joking. This is not funny, you know. Hindi ako pwedeng maging tatay, 24 lang ako."
"Do I look like I'm kidding? 4 years old na si Kirby ngayon, 21 lang ako nung pinanganak ko siya. At ikaw ang ama niya, can't you see the resemblance? Nag-break tayo almost five years ago. Four months after nung break-up, dun ko nalaman na buntis pala ako. We broke up the morning after we had drunk sex, remember? Apparently, we didn't use a condom kaya ayan siya ngayon."
"I don't believe you. Bakit ngayon mo lang sinabi 'to? Why did you wait so long?"
"You fucking cheated on me, RJ. I was mad at you and not letting you know we have a kid became an idea of revenge."
"So why now? And I want a DNA test."
"Fine, have him tested."
"Why now?" he asked again.
"I got this job offer, a stewardess position ... an opportunity to travel and see the world. Na-delay lahat nang life plans ko dahil sa pagkakamali natin. And I want to continue doing things for myself now. Don't get me wrong, I love Kirby. But since wala na parents ko and walang ibang pwedeng mag-alaga sa kaniya, I thought it's time to approach you." Kristine replied. RJ's heart sank; he already knew what his ex would ask him to do.
"Oh ... no ... nope, you won't leave that kid with me."
"I have to, it's my only chance at life ... RJ, maawa ka naman. Nasa bag na yan lahat nang kailangan mong malaman kay Kirby. May susi din jan sa bahay para makuha mo yung milk supply at damit niya. It's time for you to be a Dad."
RJ waited for any sign that would tell him Kristine was lying. But he felt it deep in his gut, she was telling the truth.
"I'm a Dad ... holy shit." He commented before looking at the little boy sleeping peacefully on his couch. RJ then heard footsteps and when he turned, he saw Kristine walking towards the door.
"I'm sorry, babalikan ko siya someday. You two ... good luck." Kristine said and walked out of the door before he could even stop her. RJ felt light-headed and everything started spinning.
"Tatay na ako ... tatay na ako ... nooo." He said before he felt himself fall down and pass out.
