Finding Connor

"Where are you going?" Galactical asks me. "I'm trying to find Connor, because Rex wanted it. Before he died..." "Why can't we all come?" Blake walked up to me. "I just didn't want you or Kya to get hurt. He's a renegade." Galactical nodded. "I've dealt with those before." I smiled. I pointed a paw down the mountain, toward the valley of Echo smith. "We have to find him there." "What's happening here?" Kya ask us. "We're thinking that the valley of Echo smith is where to find Connor, as Sky puts it." Blake walked up to me. "Should we really be doing this? What about Jello?" "Autumn's with Jello. That's not our main priority right now. Connor can help us find Jello and Autumn. Maybe he's helped wolves that turned evil!" I whispered back to Blake. "I can't catch up if we go down to the valley. I'm not fast." Kya said. "Get on my back." Galactical and Blake offered at the same time. "I can carry you. I'll fly you there." "Oh god, what are you thinking?" We laughed. "I know you don't think you can catch up, but you can. We all can fly if we want to." Wings emerge from my body, to tops of them blue, the bottoms of them white. Huge wings emerged from Galactical's body, blue wings with stars all over and purple around the tips. "Um Sky, there's just one problem." "What is it?" I asked kindly. "I don't know how to fly!" "it's okay!" I say, ears up and tail high. "I'll teach you." I flap my wings once, and lift off the ground a few feet. I keep flapping them until I'm above the treeline, then I bank left, go into a dive, and catch the air current just before I slam into the ground, and I land promptly in front of Galactical. "Now you try." Galactical flapped her wings, came of the ground, and caught an air current that threw her up. She lost her balance, but I had confidence in her. She fell toward the ground, and at the last second, flew straight up, soaring through the sky. "I DID IT!" I launched into the air after Galactical, Kya following behind us. "Let's go to town." Kya's wings were light gray with black swirls. I noticed an orange wolf with yellow stripes down his back staring at me. My heart skipped a beat. Before I can stop my self, I say his name. "Connor." He runs off, and I know what I've just done. I've made a mistake. In my past life, as The Great Wolf, I never made mistakes. Even If I had, they would have been very small. I'd get used to it, and I'd get better at this. We were only six. It'd been a month in kindergarten. Blake, Galactical, Autumn, Jello, Kya and I hadn't been there for over two weeks. Blake was right behind us in the air, his yellow wings covered in black moons. We were almost at town, and when we landed, it was night. The sky was getting dark. This is good! Other wolves can't tell who we are. If there are other wolves... What if they were just people? "Sky, look! Over there!" I barely managed to make out Blake pointing toward Slash. Slash was talking to Connor. "Hurry, follow me." With our wings tucked at our sides, I took my friends into an alley between a diner and a pet grooming store. We were safe. For now. "Do you want to stay in this town? Connor and Slash live over here." Blake asked. "Why not? Let's take some risks." Kya said, blushing. "We'll have to find somewhere to live. Maybe we can be orphans!" Galactical and I had the same idea. We changed into our human selves. Blake and Kya got the gist and changed into themselves as well. Jake, Galaxy, Trinity and I walked into the street and stumbled into a man. (We actually walked into him.) He had asked our names and we'd told him. "Very unusual names, Trinity and Galaxy. You know, there is an orphanage just north of here. Find it." "That man clearly didn't want to help us." Jake said as we were walking north. "What do we do now?" Galaxy asked. Kya sped up her pace, and I glimpsed a neon sign. The letters read: Orphanage. "We just have to go to the orphanage and get in. I'll do the talking, if you want." I offered. Jake, Galaxy, and Trinity nodded. When we reached the front door, a lady in an apron that read Orphanage was cleaning the front steps. "Hello." She greeted us. "Where are you four kids off to?" I looked at her shoes and thought up a really tragic story. "We don't have anywhere to go. Our parents died in a car accident. We were abandoned by our foster family, and here we are. We were hoping we could stay here, if you don't mind." I even started crying. "Why of course you can stay here! Mrs. Penning loves kids, she'll be happy to take you in. Go on in toward the front desk."  As the doors closed behind us, I heard the lady mutter. "Those poor kids." "Nice story." Jake said. "How did you come up with it?" Kya asked. "How were you able to make yourself cry? Were those real tears?" "I just thought of it. To make myself cry I thought of my dead friends from my first life. And yes, those were real tears." Mrs. Penning was at the front desk, and we each got bowls of soup for dinner, and then we went upstairs to sleep. As we crawled into our separate cots, I heard a shout from outside. "CONNOR! THIS IS HORRIBLE!" The noise faded. I knew Slash had yelled. Will we ever be able to go outside again? How are we going to be our wolves? I hope I figure this out by morning. I drifted off to sleep.
