My paws touched the lava, and smoke rose up from the burned pads

My paws touched the lava, and smoke rose up from the burned pads. I leaped, high up, flapping my wings. I grabbed onto the metal rings above me with my claws. Another power I never talked about: I can hold a grip for a really long time. Blake was next to me wings out, claws wrapped around the metal chain links.

"Blake, we'll get out of this. I promise!" I yelled over the lava's bubbling, gurgling noise. SRRRRCH! Our cage stopped moving down, and moved back up, then, it opened, sending us tumbling out onto the cold, metal floor. Shadow stood before us. "Lets get out of here. Before the others find us."

We walked with Shadow for a long time, until the pads on my paws ached. I stopped to lick them. "Hey, Shadow, how did you know where we were?" Shadow turned toward me, face changed, black fur changed to brown, underbelly changed to white.  "Because." He grinned, and it spread across his face, ear to ear. "I put you there."

"Where's Shadow? Why'd you let us go?" Blake flew into a spitting, howling, blinding rage. He howled. Cold wisps of wind aroused and emerged his head. Suddenly, three seconds later, there was Cobalt, standing before us, protecting us.

Cobalt had emerged in a storm of lighting, and he had come out teeth snapping, fangs flashing. He had launched onto Pierce, shouting "GO!" Just before he landed his teeth and dug them into Pierce's throat. Pierce let out a blood curdling howl, making my hackles raise. I felt a pain in my shoulder. It was Blake, biting my shoulder, flapping his wings and flying away from Cobalt and Pierce. I flapped my wings and flew beside Blake, and he took his teeth out of my fur.

We had made it to the wolf village before I thought of looking back. "Sky! Sky! Are you alright?" "Yes, I'm fine. Its just, well, Cobalt risked his life for us." Flame got the idea and didn't say anything.

"You're lucky to be alive." A voice said behind me. I turned around, and saw Cobalt. Shadow was next to him, holding him up. "Shadow!" I started running up to him. I stopped. "Wait. How do I know you're not Pierce?" "I killed Pierce." Cobalt said. I believed him. I ran to Cobalt. Blake and Flame went to go get a doctor wolf. I examined Cobalt's wounds. He had a massive one, right down to the bone, on his left shoulder. "I'm glad you're okay." I smiled, tears ready to fall like fat raindrops. We hugged.

Two hours later...

Cobalt was okay! He even felt well enough to go back to his den. He even invited Shadow to come with him, but he declined the offer. "Shadow, do you know where Jello, or anybody else is?" Shadow shook his head. "No. I went off after them as soon as they were taken. I saw them get brainwashed. I fled, thinking they were after me. I was right." The conversation ended there. Shadow left, saying he was going to try and figure out if there was a way to reverse the brainwashing somehow.

The next day...

"Blake, join us, or we'll kill Sky." Jello smirked. His eyes glowed red. Blake sighed. All thought of resistance left his face. To Jello, it seemed as if he had given up. Jello stepped forward. Blake bit his front paw, and swung Jello into a wall. Blake ran. Hard as he could, fast as he could. His legs ached from the pounding and running. "GET BACK HERE, YA NASTY LITTLE WOLF!" Jello called after Blake. Run, Run, Run...

"He got away." Jello told his fellow wolves. "I don't know how, but he did." Autumn snarled. "We'll get em'. Don't worry, boss." He spat the last words so they sounded superior.

"Blake, thank you," Shadow said. "Now, this strand of Jello's fur will help me figure out as to fixing him and saving him from the brainwashing." Cobalt walked into the room. "Hey, Shadow," I said. "I found this." I held the object out to him. It was a black ring. "Use it. Summon your ancestor." I handed it to Shadow. He took it, a black light shooting up into the sky. Before Shadow, stood his ancestor, Spike. Spike was camouflaged. Literally. That was his fur pattern. "Shadow." Spike said. "A war is to come. We must stop it. All of us."
