As I stood in the doorway, waiting for Blake to wake up, I thought about last night. He had been training in an evil place. Either he was being manipulated or he was turning evil. I didn't want to believe that Blake was turning evil- but I had to consider the possibility that it might be true. The sun rose high in the sky. It was noonish, and I had eaten a rabbit an hour ago. Blake's wounds were deep. He'd barely survived. Looking at Blake from the doorway, I could see his chest rising and falling. I stared at the bandages draped over his wounds. One was stained with blood. I studied the bandage for a few minutes until my worst fears were confirmed- Blake was bleeding out. "HELP!" I yelled, racing out of the medicine den. Kya came racing toward me, and she zoomed into the medicine den. "There's nothing I can do. Herbs can't heal wounds this deep." She said. I nodded, then realized what I would have to do. "I have to use my magic." "No!" Kya cried. "Your soul will be damaged! You've used your magic too many times." I glanced at Kya before speaking. "If I go crazy, lock me in a cell. I'm doing this. I have to save Blake." I quickly used my magic on Blake, watching as his wounds closed up and disappeared. "Do you feel any different?" Kya asked, backing away from me like I had rabies. "No. You can do that thing you do to check my soul, though." I offered, turning my head away from Kya so she felt safer. "Ok." Kya checked my soul and wrote down the results on a piece of paper. "Your soul is one-hundred percent good." Kya replied, glancing up at me from the sheet of paper. "That's wierd. Using that much magic should have made you at least fifty percent evil." I shrugged and turned back to Blake. His eyes fluttered open. "Sky... Kya..." He whispered, struggling to speak. "Blake, do you feel evil?" Kya asked. "No. Why would I?" Blake looked genuinely confused, almost as if he had no memory of last night. "Blake, last night you went into a forest with Keon and trained to kill. Keon nearly killed you, but luckily I was there to save you." I said. Blake shook his head, as if to clear his thoughts. "It's all coming back to me now. What did Keon make me do?" He whimpered. "You snapped at Sky so you should tell her you're sorry. Galactical witnessed it so you'd better tell her what happened so she doesn't sit on you for the rest of the day. And you can never let Keon take over again." Kya instructed. "Too late!" Galactical cried, jumping on top of Blake. "Oof." Blake said. Kya and I laughed. "Galactical, I have something to tell you." Blake told Galactical what had happened last night, and he told me he was sorry for snapping at me. "So if I ever start acting evil again, lock me up, or knock me unconscious. I don't want to hurt anyone." Blake said, leaping off the bed and sliding out from under Galactical. "I'm going hunting. Sky, do you want to come with me?" Blake asked. I knew e was asking because he was afraid of what he might do, and because he wanted to make amends with me. "Of course I'll come." I said, trotting out the door beside Blake. We flew into the forest and brought down a moose. It was a strain flying it back home. We lay it down in the middle of town, so every wolf could see our kill. Blake smiled at me, and I smiled back. But there was still doubt gnawing at my belly. And one question that I kept asking myself.
Is Blake turning evil?
I realized I didn't have an answer.
