Chapter 11 – Back To Square One

Jina

I stared at the two missed calls on my phone, thinking of how much of a coward I was being again while I swiped the screen to dismiss those notifications.

I had already saved his number so I didn't exactly have to go around wondering whom it maybe when his name was highlighted in red on my recent missed calls history. Not to mention the those calls went unanswered on purpose.

It's been three days since I snuck out of Kai's house. I had stayed there that morning when I woke up beside him because I didn't want to runaway again like a coward again but right now that was exactly what I was doing but instead of awkwardness or embarrassment, it was the horror I felt at realizing my unnecessary feelings for him that was keeping me from getting in touch with him.

I had no place feeling jealous about him kissing other girls. Neither of us were looking for a relationship nor a commitment. The sooner I worked my way out of this feeling the better because I knew it was just a matter of time before my willpower gave up and I went back to him. When that happened, I needed to make damn sure that I felt nothing but lust and desire for him.

Plain and simple.

I tried shaking off these troubling thoughts as I left my room to join my sister for lunch. I never had breakfast because it was always close to dawn when I went to bed each night. So lunches tend to be my breakfast, that too only on weekends, when my sister, Yeena, was home to cook. The other days I didn't really bother cooking, only grabbing something quick to eat.

Yeena was a mother hen through and through, she was all about taking care of others, which to be honest was the only reason that made my weekends tolerable because my workplace was crawling with sleazy assholes on weekends, not something I looked forward to at all.

"I was just about to come and shout at you again if you didn't get your lazy self out of bed." She complained with a frown. Yeah, Yeena, hated that I worked nights, she was concerned for my safety as it was. I could only guess as to what she would do if she figured out the real truth.

"How's school?" I asked changing the subject. Digging into the food that she had cooked for our lunch. I exaggerated a moan when I took a bite. "This is soo good~." I said making her face brighten with a smile. It was the greatest gift anyone could give Yeena. She was a pleaser; I swear her greatest pleasure was being appreciated. She was also my one true weakness because in her I saw what I could have been if life was any different. That was the reason why I was so determined to keep her away from the depraved life I had to live.

"Just like always, nothing new." She shrugged, her lips still pulled up in a smile while she kept topping up my plate.

"I'm just waiting for the day you would drop out of school and stay home to cook for me every day." I said pulling on her hair to tease. She flicked my hand away but her eyes were filled with satisfaction, exactly how I liked her to be.

"Do you want to hang out later?" she asked with excitement. I can't remember the last time I spent any quality time with her. I was about to agree since I had nothing planned but the vibrations from my phone interrupted us.

I picked up my phone from the table thinking it might be Rian since we haven't had a chance to catch up for a while either.

It wasn't Rian though or anyone I knew because the call was from an unknown number. I frowned while thinking who it could be. I was tempted to let it go to voice mail because I half expected it to be Kai, though he probably wouldn't go to so much trouble to contact me. Feeling curious anyway, I answered it at the last second with a sigh and instantly wished I hadn't.
