Chapter 25 – Giving up

Jina

Waking up to the bright rays of the sun filtering in through the window blinds that were left open, I felt the heat of Kai's body against my back. It was such a tempting feeling to stay like this but the time had come. It was morning and what happened during the night needed to be left behind in the past. I tried to crawl out from underneath his arm that was curled around my middle, collecting my scattered clothes and intending to sneak out of the room.

When I looked up from the clothes in my grasp, it was to meet his sleep hazy eyes that were staring back at me. When his eyes took in my still naked state they blazed with want and desire. My heart galloped away and my toes curled into the floor, my body reacting to the look in his eyes. He got out of the bed, I expected him to come after me, his declaration from last night be damned but to my disappointment and apprehension he kept his distance. I was disappointed because my treacherous body would forever be under his spell but I was apprehensive because his restrain only meant that he was serious about what he said last night.

"If you keep tempting me, I'm going to take it as an invitation." His voice was still rough with sleep. "And like I said, if you give in to me all bet's are off." His look was a challenge.

I knew I should have scrambled to get my clothes on but now that I thought about it this was my last chance to make him go back on his words. My emotions made no sense, one second I wanted him and the next I want nothing but to runaway. I have always hated people who couldn't make up their damn mind, the irony of being exactly that right now was not lost on me. Just days before I had walked away wanting nothing to do with him but here I was. But no matter what I didn't want to be indebted to him more than I was already.

"Is that your choice then?" I asked as a final confirmation, I wanted so much for him to say no. " I just don't understand."

"You're not going to make me go back on my words. No matter how many time you ask Jina." His expression said he had made his decision and he was going to stick with it.

"I don't want to accept your help Kai. I'm not going to lie and say I got everything under control because I don't but no matter what, I would not willingly accept your help. I don't want to be under anyone's control."

"Huh." He frowned, staring at me. "We are both so fucked up baby. You can't even differentiate help from control." He walked closer and grazed my check with his fingers, it was such a tender move that my breath hitched.

Those might as well have been the last words we spoke before we parted ways but not before we startled a nurse who walked in to check up on Kai. At least I was fully dressed at the time, though our disheveled appearances left little to imagination. I couldn't have gotten out of there fast enough but from all the look's the staff gave me I knew word must have spread already.

I tried not to panic about that becoming public knowledge. Right now I had enough on my mind without having that added stress on my mind because before I left, Kai issued the order for me to quit my job and see him at his apartment tonight. Of course I asked him to show his order where the sun doesn't shine.

His reply was to smirk, his words dashing any hope I had of ignoring him. "Remember Jina, I'm not above playing dirty, if it means that I can get my way, specially when I know it's for the best." For the best my ass and he had the gale to say that I couldn't differentiate between help and control.

Leaving home that evening I had my letter of resignation crumpled in my grip. I should have handed it in before going to Kai's apartment but I was all for having the slightest satisfaction of rebelling where I could. Childish I know but that was all I could be at the moment. But when I made it to his door, I realized my mistake in not clarifying the time. I must be too early because he was not yet home. I had to take my seat on the ground next to his door. I half expected to be dragged out by security for suspicious behaviour but other than a few curious looks as his neighbors passed by me, nothing else happened.

Finally, I spotted him getting out the elevator. One look at his irritated and tired expression and I knew that chance of me talking him out of anything today was zero. I was tempted to dash to the fire exit on the opposite end of the hallway and make a run for it.

"Wow, you look like you had a super awesome day." I grinned and it paid off when he glared at me. Like I said, the little satisfaction of rebelling.

"Shut it." He grumped before opening the door and disappearing inside.

"Why, thank you for your lovely invitation in, I'll make myself at home." My tone was all sunshine and rainbows. I followed him when he went straight to his bedroom.

"Seriously? How old are you? Five? I need a damn shower and food before we go at it." He proceeded to strip and my eyes ate up his skin. "Unless you want to join?" His eyes shined with mischief calling me out on having dug my own grave. Where the hell did the tired irritation go? I much preferred that to this look.

"Hmm, tempting but I'll pass this time." Thinking I had pushed him enough, I moved out to the kitchen. Going through his cupboards and fridge to come up empty. Huh, what had he though to eat? Ice? Because that's the only thing here I could see.

I thought to leave it be and let him figure it out but then again, I wanted him to be in an easy mood so he would listen to me. Having food ready would be a step in the right direction. I left him a message that I was going out to get some food before I left. Incase he got out of the shower before I got back.

It wasn't hard getting to a restaurant since Kai lived in a commercial area, there was plenty just outside the apartment building but it was just before dinnertime so everywhere was packed. It took me just over half an hour to get back. Kai opened the door with a frown.

"We could have ordered in."

"That would have cost double." I shrugged, grinning at his look of exasperation.

"So tell me, what has you in such a foul mood right now? You were looking like such a smug bastard when you were ordering me around this morning." He never replied focusing on his food instead. I gave into the silence and picked at my own food but we weren't left alone for long, the bell rang notifying us that someone else was at the door.

I guessed it to be one of the guys when Kai never asked me to hide myself before he went to open the door. I heard Sehun's voice and guessed who it was and my guess was proved right when a few seconds later I saw Rian making her way to me with the guiltiest expression on her face.
