Breaking Point

Chapter 20 – Breaking Point 

Kai

I was feeling hesitant looking at Jina, while she stared at the photo on my phone. She looked a little pale and I didn't blame her at all. My frustration was rising by the minute as I lost to whoever was doing this upped their ante with each blow they dealt to us. I have so much at my beck and call but was having zero luck with figuring out who this was. That more than anything was making me feel useless and incompetent like nothing before.

"Whoevers doing this wants us apart." Jina spoke, breaking the tense silence. "I don't know about you but I would hate for them to get the last laugh" Jina said looking at me, her eye filled with temper. I was surprised at her reaction but then again this was Jina. I had first hand experience of knowing it was pretty hard to knock her down. It was something that even I found myself admiring about her.

"Kai? Is that you in there?" I heard Irene call out from a short distance away from us and tensed. Instantly Jina was next to me.

"Tell me something." She said leaning close to me with urgency in her voice. "Is uh- Irene – someone you suspect might be behind this?" She hesitated before saying Irenes name and it made me think as to what Jina knew about my history with her but it was a matter for another time.

"Jina, it's not that simple...." I felt like a kid being reprimanded by their parent when she glared at me but it really wasn't that simple. My mind knew there was zero chance between me and Irene. I had more pride than to ever accept her now when she so cruelly ignored my sincerity when I was nothing. I wasn't famous or successful back then. But I was sincere in my feelings for her and I hated how still, even now, I had a hard time putting her down from that damn pedestal I put her up on all those years ago. She still had a hold on me and I hated myself for that weakness. I would be dammed if I would ever let anyone else get close to my emotions that way again.

"I have zero tolerance for your puppy love Kai, lets just piss her off and see what happens." Jina's words broke through my trip down bitter memories. I didn't even have a chance to protest before she was clinging on to my body, her lips touching mine as her arms curled around my neck, pulling me down towards her. It only took mere seconds before our little flame turned into a full blown inferno.

I heard someone clear their throat close to us and it was like a splash of cold water in my face. I pushed Jina away from me so fast that she stumbled away from me.

I winced with pain when Kai pushed me away from him. To be honest, I didn't expect such a reaction from him just because Irene walked in on us making out. If I knew, I wouldn't have done such a thing. After all he was the one who said that he would never let her use him as a stepping stone to rise to her fame. In my book that meant you didn't give a hell as to what that person thought about you, apparently that wasn't the same in Kai's book if the accusing look on his face was anything to go by.

I looked away from his face and to Irene's to see the anger and disbelief on her face. It was too late to back track now so I pushed on ahead. Might as well rule out one suspect while the damage had already been done, I could always apologize to Kai later.

I moved close to Kai again and snaked my arm around his neck.

"Baby stop being so rough with me." I crooned for show. If I wasn't feeling so guilty about putting on this act and damaging whatever it was Kai had with Irene I would have enjoyed the confusion on Kai's face. "Are you in the mood for some rough because we went so slow last night." I bit a lip and leaned in to kiss his jaw. I felt his skin tighten under my lips.
