Unexpected Gift Ch. 4 ❤️👶🏼

Dinah shook anxiously as she watched the doctor swirled the probe along Lauren's swollen belly. The older girl was avoiding her girlfriend's gaze at all costs, knowing that Dinah was beyond pissed at her, and to be honest, she was pissed at herself. She knew not to be so careless with her precious fetus, and just as she had gotten too confident, something went wrong.

"Alright, Ms. Jauregui. Everything looks great. It seems that your knees caught your fall. Your baby is completely fine. And healthy, if I might add."

Dinah released the breath she had been holding since Lauren had been loaded into the car and taken to the hospital. She helped Lauren wipe the gel off her stomach, still not looking at the girl, before helping her off the table. Once she saw that Lauren was firmly on the ground, she dropped her hands from Lauren's body and walked out of the room first.

The doctor turned to Lauren with an awkward look and Lauren sent an apologetic smile towards the man. "I'm sorry. She's a little upset with me."

"Don't worry, Ms. Jauregui," The man smiled politely, "I've dealt with much worse."

Lauren gave another small smile and walked out of the room, now aware of the pain in her knees. As she walked down the hall, she noticed Dinah talking on the phone to someone with a relieved look on her face. As Lauren neared, Dinah caught her gaze, and avoided her eyes completely.

"...Yeah, I'll call you when we get back to the hotel. Simon is meeting us there...Alright, bye." Dinah pressed the end button on her phone before looking at Lauren with the same angry expression. "Are you ready?"

Lauren nodded somberly, looking down at the floor in front of her. Dinah placed her hand on Lauren's lower back and guided her out of the hospital, not enjoying the looks she was getting from the people around her.

The walk to their car was slow and dead silent, but Lauren knew she was going to get an ear full once inside the vehicle.

At the car, Dinah hovered protectively as Lauren climbed into the SUV, making sure that it went smoothly. Once Lauren was safely inside, Dinah climbed in after her. As Neil, their current driver, pulled off, Lauren watched Dinah out of the side of her eyes.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Dinah snapped. Lauren jumped at the outburst and looked down at her lap. Dinah's face softened some at Lauren's reaction, and she sighed out loud. "Look, I didn't mean to snap like that. I'm just so damn angry, Lauren. You have to understand that."

"I do." Lauren nodded.

"You do realize that your carelessness could've hurt the baby, right? 'Cause it seems like you don't know that."

"Of course I know that! I'm not dumb."

Dinah snapped her head back to Lauren's and gave her a hard look. "Then why the hell did you do it? I told you to be careful, and all you wanted to do was prove that you could do just as much as everyone else, but you can't."

"Dinah, just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean that I have to be treated like I'm fragile!" Lauren fought.

"I know that you aren't fragile, but our baby is! Can't you at least pretend to care?!"

Lauren's mouth clicked shut and she felt herself fill with rage. "You don't think I care about this baby?" She asked through gritted teeth.

Dinah stayed silent for a moment before she sighed again. "You sure as hell have a funny way of showing it."

"Are you fucking kidding me? You think I don't care about my baby? If I didn't care about this baby, Dinah, I wouldn't be having it! I love this baby!"
