Normani sat at the Jauregui household kitchen island surrounded by Camila, Ally, and Dinah. They had just made themselves after school sandwiches and were sitting around gossiping before starting their homework.

"I cannot believe Ms. Klef gave us homework on a Thursday night!" Camila whined.

"Camila, you say that every day. She has to give us homework sometimes." Normani snorted.

"Shoo, I'm with Mila on this one. Nela wanted to go to the community center and play a pick-up volleyball game." Dinah smacked her lips. "I mean, I know it's super weird to say, but I miss him when he's gone."

"Yeah, that is weird. Austin and I cherish our time away from each other.

"It's not weird. I miss Troy when he's gone, too. He's actually at the store with his mom to get something for his dad's birthday."

"I'm telling you, your boyfriend has the best relationship with his parents I've ever seen." Normani shook her head. "Lauren literally cannot stand to be around your mom or dad."

Ally sighed. "I know, but that's not unusual considering all the things they put her through after Chris passed away. They treat her like she's made of glass, and it's been almost 14 years."

Dinah shook her head and pursed her lips. "I don't know about ya'll, but the last thing I would call that girl is weak."

"You just think she's made of stone like the Twilight vampires." Ally chuckled.

"Hey, if the shoe fits." Dinah shrugged.

Normani sighed. "I just wish that Lauren could talk to your parents and make them see that she's fine! She's literally perfect in every way, and so what if she doesn't like to talk?"

"It's mostly my mom. My dad thinks that she's fine the way she is, but he's willing to agree with my mom about anything. That's how they stuck together after the accident." Ally shrugged again.

Camila looked down. "I'm sorry, Ally."

Ally furrowed her brows. "For what?"

Camila took a deep breath. "I just don't think we give you enough credit for all of this. I mean, Chris was your brother too."

"Yeah, but I wasn't close with him like Lauren was. I was only 5 when he passed away, and he and Lauren were really close. I didn't really understand what was happening, but I did get that I had lost my brother." Ally took a deep breath before continuing. "I guess, losing my brother wasn't as hard as losing my sense of...family. The only person that treated me the same after that was Lauren."

"Your parents too?"

"Well, they still love me and Lauren more than anything, and they always told us that, but it was almost like they were afraid that they'd messed us up. Lauren was the only person that ever talked to me like I wasn't a kid."

"Lauren...talked?" Dinah joked.

"Shut up." Ally chuckled, but was grateful for the comedic relief. "She used to pull me into her room and talk to me for hours about how much she was grateful for me, and how everything was going to be okay."

"Does she still do that?" Normani asked with furrowed brows. "I mean, she talks about talking to you all the time, but I've never actually seen it."

Ally smiled and nodded. "She usually calls me once a week and we talk for hours. It's a little different now that she's away at college. She usually doesn't have much time for anything else besides school, work, and Mani."

"Yeah, right." Normani scoffed. "She barely has time for me. We have to make time for each other. Do you know how many times she's fallen asleep on me?"
