AN: Top two blondes is the hairstyle for Zillah
Chapter 2- Edward
After leaving the lady in my room I walked back up to the deck, finding solace in the cool sea breeze and sound of waves lapping at my ship. My thoughts began to wander with the wind, to Zillah, and what I was to do with her. I was captain of a bunch of pirates, no company for a lady, but no other pirate would take her for her own good, and a merchant vessel would charge too much or turn her in. I sighed, and leaned back against the wooden railing.
"You alright Cap'n?"A man asked.
"Ah, Johnny, just the mate I wanted to see."I replied, glad my friend had not joined in the drunken revelry.
"I repeat my question Edward."Johnny responded, truly concerned.
"Johnny, it's the girl, Zillah. Was I wrong to bring her aboard?"I asked, grateful to have space to vent.
"No Edward. You saved her from death. She may not see her family again, but she is alive. You did a good thing. God would be proud, and so would your mother."Johnny answered, seizing Edward's arm.
"But what about her. She'll see me as the bad guy for taking her away from her family."Edward moaned, not liking the feeling the thought of Zillah disliking him gave him.
"Aye that she will, but give her, her space and time and see what happens. You did the right thing."Johnny said, heading back down to the galley.
I stood on the deck of my ship, letting the cool breeze wash over me, praying for knowledge, and watching the sun set. Then in the darkness I wandered back down to my room. I pushed through the door and lit a lamp. In the swaying shadows I saw Zillah fast asleep kneeling against my bed. It looked like she had fallen asleep mid-prayer. I lifted her up effortlessly and set her in my bed, drawing the covers around her. I made a mental note to find a suitable dress for her. I grabbed a clean shirt and breeches and a spare blanket before leaving my room, and stationing myself outside the door. The floor was uncomfortable, but the normal feeling of a rocking ship allowed me to sleep peacefully for the first time since Nan's Jewel landed in Port Royal.
