Chapter 27- Edward
"Ash?"I asked, hoping she would just spit it out.
"I want a child."She finally said.
I swear my mouth dropped open.
"There is an orphanage down on Main. Tell me how much it is to adopt."I said, stepping towards my ex-wife.
"No Edward, I want a child from you."
"Ashlyn! That would be... Wrong! We aren't married anymore."I cried, very concerned.
"Then you don't want to get to Port Royal that bad."Ash said, just as Captain Aaron walked by.
"Fine, how soon can we leave?"I asked, turning away as Aaron looked my way.
"Wait for me up ahead, I want to check something."I heard him say.
"Now I guess."Ash answered her smile in her voice.
Ash's ship, Captain Shwin's Revenge took off at a slow pace, but Aaron didn't get his chance to look. As we eased out of the harbor Zillah turned to me.
"Edward? What are you thinking?"She shrieked.
"Jealous much?"I asked, trying to understand what I was thinking.
"No! I am not jealous!"Zillah shrieked.
I raised my eyebrows. "Zillah, it was the only way to get you to safety."I answered.
"Sounds like going back to the lion's den to me."She muttered.
"Yes and no. We will be disguised, and try to clear your name."I answered.
"Nobody ever listens to us, why should they start?"Zillah said sourly.
"Because it won't be us."I stated simply.
"Yeah, that'll-."Zillah started, before clutching one hand to her stomach, and one to her mouth.
I saw her stomach heave, and stepped back.
"You okay?"I asked tenderly.
"Yeah, I don't know what came over me."Zillah answered, her brow creased in confusion.
"Why don't you go lay down."I said, leading her over to Ash.
"Ash, what rooms do you want us in?"I asked.
"Ah, I'll show you. Heppy, make sure to keep her on track for Port Royal."Ash called, leading us down the stairs.
Ash showed me into the captain's quarters, much to Zillah's disgust, and Zillah into a well furnished other room.
"I hope these are to your liking."She said, leaving.
I looked around Ash' cabin. I was surprised to see it very feminine, with pale pink walls, and a white quilt. There were many books, and two out of place suitcases, that I found to be mine, and filled with my clothes that she had kept.
"Odd..."I mumbled, fingering my suitcase.
I stretched out on the large bed, then thought better of it, and walked down to find Zillah. When I knocked, all I received was a moan. I walked into her room to find her kneeling over her chamber pot, her face a deathly pale.
"Zillah, are you sure you're alright?"I asked.
She moaned in reply again.
"Come on, let's get you some tea."I said, helping her small frame up. She only came to below my shoulders, so I picked her up and carried her down to the galley.
I asked the cook for some tea, and helped Zillah drink it, trying to figure out what was wrong. I was a guy, things like this never happened to us.
"Better?"I asked when Zillah finished her tea.
"Much, thank you Edward."She answered.
"Are you sure you're okay Zillah?"I asked, still trying to figure out what was wrong.
"I'm fine."She assured me, though it was weak.
"Zillah, are you sick?"I asked.
"No Edward. I'm fine."She replied.
"Sea sick?"I persisted.
"No."She said, standing.
"Zillah, I know you are not all right, please tell me what's wrong."I begged.
"Edward, nothing is wrong with me! I am perfectly-."Here she was forced to pause as one hand clutched her stomach, and the other her mouth.
"Oh yes, perfectly fine."I murmured, leading her up to the deck.
"Edward, please I'm fine."Zillah protested weakly.
"You don't sound it, look it, or show it."I pointed out.
"Edward, everything alright?"Ashlyn asked, coming over to us.
The port of Vienna was no longer in sight, and I wondered how long it had been.
"Zillah isn't feeling well."I explained.
"Poor child."Ash said, but I could see the hatred in her eyes. "I'll watch over her, you go get some sleep."
"I'm fine Ash, I can stay."I said.
"No Edward, you need rest."Ash said, leading me back to her room.
"Fine. Zillah, get well, and be safe."I said.
I collapsed on Ash's bed, and realized just how tired I really was.
