Chapter 9- Edward
I looked over at Zillah, her beautiful hair hidden by my hat. Even though it was warm and humid on the ocean, she shook, and I longed to hold and comfort her, but I knew that would get weird looks. She looked up at caught my eye. The pain and longing there forced me to glance away. I looked towards the stern of the boat, and saw land. It was fairly close, a swimmable distance, but too far to make out anything but the dense jungle. I turned back to see the Mary Rose alongside my ship, her captain asking for permission to board. I nodded my head, and half of the ship's men crossed over, and began searching through my ship. Her sails were slack, and we sat floundering in the water, my entire crew spread in a line on the main deck. Zillah stood next to me, with Johnny on my other side. The captain of the Mary Rose came over, and I recognized him as my long time friend, Aaron Dalton.
"Good afternoon Edward."Captain Aaron greeted.
"Afternoon Aaron."I said.
"I believe you have heard of a Zillah Taffton."I saw Zillah look up.
"I have."I answered.
"She disappeared from Port Royal a few days ago. Your ship was one that left that day."Aaron explained.
"I know."I answered.
"We are searching your ship, not because we suspect you, but because of the time and location."Captain Aaron replied.
"You won't find her. I'm sure I would know if a young woman stored herself on my ship, and I wouldn't house a fugitive."I answered, mostly true.
As we talked the soldiers came up and said they had found nothing.
"That's not a surprise."Aaron murmured, walking along the line of crew. "You won't find her straight out hiding. She's right here."
Aaron stopped in front of Zillah, and pulled my hat off, causing her long hair to tumble down.
"Good afternoon Lady Zillah."He said.
Zillah started to shake and slowly backed away, fear prominent in her violet eyes.
