Chapter 19- Zillah

Elda found some powder to make my face pale, and found a thin shirt which hugged my thin frame. When I was bundled up in a cold dark room I had a feeling I looked very sick indeed. It was hard for me to lie in bed, not moving for long periods of time. Earthstar and Firecry continued to watch the King's ships, and with their reports I was allowed back into life, as it were. Edward was nowhere to be found. He never came and visited me while I was "confined" to my bed, and when I wasn't he was always off somewhere. I spent my time helping Elda, Watercress, or Windstar. Windstar and I were the same age, so it was easy to get along with her. I marveled at her white hair, while she wondered at my ringlets. Around sunset I would sit on the beach and stare out at the water, thinking of Edward. I thought of the when he saved me, and how I would never be able to repay him for that. It had been a few days since I had last seen Edward. As I sat watching the sunset, I tried to draw up a mental image of him. I clearly remembered his turbulent grey eyes. Even though he wasn't there, I still found myself lost in them. It honestly scared me how I felt towards him. I used to wonder why his smile never reached his eyes, but now I knew, and it seemed to scare me even more. I opened my eyes, and leaned forward into the cool ocean wave.

"Oh Lord, what am I to do?"I questioned, looking up at the cloudy night sky. "I don't like this feeling I have whenever I think of him. It's weird and different! Please Lord, help me."I prayed, dipping my hand into the squishy beach sand.

My prayer was met with the sound of crashing waves. I stood as a larger wave washed over me, drenching my clothing.

"Zillah, being wet and cold won't hide you much."A voice said, a laugh breezing over his statement.

"I'm not hiding."I said, mistaking the identity.

"That's good. I don't want to jump off a ship to get you. I'll leave that to you and Captain Dubois."The way he said it made me shiver, and I knew who it was.

"I'm not a pirate."I spat, turning to him.

"Evidence seems to say otherwise."Captain Aaron replied.

"Have you heard the whole story?"I asked, taking a small step backwards.

"No, I just know all I need to know." He responded.

"Captain, please listen to me. I beg you."I pleaded, hoping he would.

"What do you want me to know?"He asked.

My heart jumped. I knew once he heard my story he would talk to officials and the charges would be dropped. I would be able to go home!

"Captain, here is why I was on the ship..."I began, my hopes higher than they had ever been.
