Chapter 38- Edward
When I came to, I found my head hurt, but then so did everything. I felt like I had been hit over the head, and then dragged. It wasn't a good feeling. It took me a few minutes to reconnect my mind and my body, and then I opened my eyes and looked around. I could smell the wonderful scent of the sea, feel the roll of the ship, and only saw blue and brown so I figured me to be on a ship in the middle of the Caribbean. I looked around and saw the bright flag of the King. Then I heard a voice I had prayed I would never hear again.
"Glad to see your awake Captain Edward."Aaron said, bending down to my level. I realized I was lying on the deck.
"Never been happier."I said, forcing myself up to a sitting position.
"Watch the sarcasm Ed."Aaron said.
"Edward, not Ed." I corrected.
Aaron walked away and came back with a bucket. He threw the contents over me, drenching me in ice cold water.
"What the heck?"I asked, wiping water out of my eyes.
"Sorry, after I knocked you out you kinda got drug through some animal... droppings."Aaron said, but his laugh overruled any sympathy.
"Where's Zillah?"I asked, knowing what the monster could do.
"I don't know. I don't care about that wench anymore."Aaron said with a wave of his hand.
"So what do you want with me?"I asked, hoping for a glimpse into his devious plan.
"Like I would tell you. Edward, you are on a need to know basis right now."Aaron said. "Enjoy!"He called, right before leaving my sight.
I looked around the Mary Rose, wondering why none of the crew questioned my unconsciousness. I was upset to see that my senses had been right, and that I was indeed in the middle of the ocean. The one thing my senses couldn't have prepared me for was seeing Captain Shwin's Revenge docked beside the Mary Rose.
"Oh Lord, please tell me there's a plan in this!"I prayed before standing up.
I saw Ash standing on the edge of her ship looking out towards the north.
"Ash!"I cried, more out of surprise than happiness.
"Edward! I knew you would come back!"She answered, bounding across the gangplank to the Mary Rose.
"It wasn't exactly by choice."I muttered.
"I am so very glad to see you Edward. Now that you don't have that man stealer you can really give me a child. Now you have no reason to hold back!"Ash said.
"Ash, I tried to give you a child, but if God doesn't want that to happen, then it won't, and there's nothing I can do about that."I said calmly.
"But he gave Zillah a child from you, I want one too."Ash pouted.
"Whoa there Ash! Zillah's child isn't mine. She was raped."I said, amazed Ash could even think that.
"What do you mean the child isn't yours?"Ash asked slowly.
"Exactly that, the child isn't mine."I replied.
"How do you know that?"Ash asked. Sometimes she could be a really idiot.
"Because Ash, Zillah and I..."I broke off, not quite sure how to phrase the rest.
"Because you and her never..."Ash prompted.
"Zillah and I never had sex."I finished, deciding to just say it straight.
"Ah, I see."Ash responded, the first two words blending together.
"See what?"Aaron asked, coming up beside Ash.
"That Zillah's child isn't Edward's."Ash said, receiving a kiss from Aaron.
"Aaron, can I tell you something?"I asked.
"Of course."Aaron said, if only he knew what I was going to say.
"The Devil has a special spot for you in Hell. The place saved for rapists, cheaters, and kidnappers."I spat.
Aaron turned and before I could think, punched me straight in the face. I didn't flinch, or even bring my hand to my face. I could tell that nothing was wrong. By the grace and power of God Aaron hadn't done any damage.
"What the heck?"Aaron asked, holding his hurt hand.
"What kind of witchcraft is this?"Ash demanded, her hand poised on her hip.
"No witchcraft. Just the love, grace, and power of God."I said.
Aaron moaned, and scurried off, his tail between his legs. Ash followed after him, and I noticed both decks were empty. Once more I looked around me hoping to see the reassuring walls of Port Royal, but they were not there.
