AN: I don't know if this was made clear in the story, but Zillah is about seven months pregnant here.
Chapter 34- Edward
I didn't think Zillah and I would be in prison for as long as we were. By the time two months had passed, and the encounter with Aaron, I didn't think Zillah and I would be freed. As the time passed, I watched Zillah's energy slowly deplete, and knew mine was too. Though her spirit still ran strong, it did little to help her health. Zillah's father came by periodically to tell us how far he was getting. His first visit of good news was about four months after Zillah and I had been arrested, about two months after the incident with Aaron. It had been about two months since he had been to see us, and I could see the shock on his face at his daughter's condition. There was no doubt anymore that she was pregnant.
"I have good news. The governor finally listened and understood everything. You two are free to go."He declared just as Charles approached. "I have some papers to sign. See you outside."
Charles unlocked Zillah's cell, and I told her to go ahead and find her father, mostly because I had plans of my own. Over the time spent in prison, Charles had incessantly flirted with Zillah. It was clear she was uncomfortable, and I had tried to stop him, to protect her honor, but being the arrogant guy he was, he didn't listen. When Charles unlocked my cell door, I stepped out and punched him hard in the face, knocking him out. The second part of my plan went more smoothly. I took a piece of paper and pen that I found, thanks to God, and wrote out a quick love letter to one of the other guards. I signed it Charles, and slipped it into his pocket. I had just stood up, when another guard came in; saw his fellow guard down, and me standing over him.
"You're gonna pay for this."He growled, shoving me back into the cell.
I chuckled quietly to myself because I knew of a way out. I had used it when Zillah and I had originally tried to escape. All it was was a small section of the iron bars that swung out, allowing the trapped prisoner to escape. I sat down in the middle of the cell in a huff. I had hoped I wouldn't have to escape. I watched as the guard tried to wake up Charles, and then found the note.
"My dearest George, I'm just going to say this outright. I love you more than words can say. I know what I have for you is wrong, immoral, and illegal, but I can't stop feeling it for you. I would be willing to risk everything for you George. I hope you feel the same for me. Love Charles."George read.
The look on his face was priceless. Charles took that moment to wake up.
"Charles!"George said, helping his "lover" up.
"What?"Charles cried, following George down the hall.
I didn't hear the rest of the conversation, but figured it went something along the lines of Charles claiming he didn't write the note, and so on and so forth. I slipped through the escape hatch, and strolled down the hallway. Nobody stopped me, and I stepped out into the cold February morning. Zillah's father had brought his carriage, and I found Zillah already curled up inside it, her father beside you.
"Sorry, I had a few things I needed to take care of."I said, swinging shut the carriage door. Chandler nodded his understanding, and I think Zillah was asleep. We rode in silence back to Taffton Manor, the home of Zillah's family. When we arrived a servant carried Zillah away, and Abigail led me to my room. I took a long warm shower before collapsing into the heaven of a bed. I feel asleep instantly, but my dreams were troubled.
