Chapter 3- Zillah
When I awoke the next morning, I was lying in a bed, but it wasn't mine. I remembered everything of the previous day, but how I ended up in the bed. When I looked around the room I saw I was still in the captain's room, just seeing it in bright early morning. I slid out of the bed, allowing the sheets to fall to the ground. I untangled my rags, and walked to the door. I started to open it, but was surprised by a knock.
"Lady Zillah, are you decent?"Edward asked.
I looked down at my gown, which was threadbare, and even had large rips in areas. "I suppose..."I answered, unsure.
"I have a tub with some warm water and a clean new dress for you before we leave."Edward explained.
"This is your room..."I retorted, opening the door.
Sure enough Edward stood there with a decent sized tub and an elegant teal color, with white and blue ribbons adoring the sleeves, and white laces in the back. I chuckled quietly as I opened the door wider, and he set the tub down.
"Warm water?"He asked.
"Of course."I answered, my years of wealth not failing me.
I stood fingering the silk, thinking of the times before this; the days of stuffy corsets, and toe- biting shoes, and then I thought of the few short moments I spent on the deck of a ship. I thought of the freedom I felt, and realized I didn't miss money, or high society. I had always been one to venture out and play with my much younger brothers, not caring what others thought of a girl climbing a tree, or of a girl wearing boy's clothing. I cared I was having fun.
I was brought back to reality by a splash of hot water. I looked up to see Edward pouring some into the tub, and realized that some had accidently splashed out on me. I was too paranoid. After the water had been poured into the tub Edward left, leaving me to rip off my rags and slip into my first bath in three months. I watched as the dirt and grime floated off, and then scrubbed myself red. I washed out my hair, an action I regretted when I got out and felt the giant weight it created. Hanging my hair over the edge of the tub I tried to ring some of it out, but only managed to wet the floor of the cabin. I gave up, and struggled into the gown. Even though I had never liked dresses, this one wasn't too bad. I had enough room, that should it come to that, I could climb the main mast. I found a clean brush and mirror, and slowly began the arduous task of combing out my hair. My hair started out dark, frizzy, and full of tangles, but two hours later my light copper blonde hair hung in their natural ringlets around me, cascading down my back and over the dress. I heard a knock at the door, and turned around, opening it to an impatient Edward.
"Making sure you didn't drown."He said after a moment's hesitation.
