AN: Rebeka!!!!!!

Chapter 43- Zillah

I had given birth to a beautiful baby girl on March sixth. She had a splash of my copper hair, but Aaron's brown eyes. I decided to name her Rebeka, because of the Hebrew, "to bind", hoping that her birth would bind Edward and me. She was a darling child, and Mother fell in love with her instantly. She agreed to hire a wet nurse for her while I recovered. Abigail stayed, mostly to help with me and my daughter, though I saw Mother glare at her every few minutes. Rebeka spent most of her time sleeping in my lap for the first few days. A week after she was born Mother bought a pink satin bassinette for her, and I was able to sleep freely. I awoke one morning to not see Rebeka in her bassinette. It was early morning, and Mother and Abigail were not up yet. I was about to panic when I heard a voice I had thought I would never hear again.

"What's her name?"Edward asked.

"Edward!"I cried.

"You named your daughter after me?"Edward asked skeptically. "I'm... Honored."

"No, but you're here, and alive!"I cried.

"Shush Zillah, Edward's sleeping."Edward said jokingly.

"Her name is Rebeka."I sighed.

"Very pretty."Edward answered.

"And you look horrible."I said, looking him over.

His clothes were ripped, and I even saw suspicious burn spots. His face was covered in soot in spots, and he was soaking wet.

"Thank you Zillah."Edward replied, yawning.

"Sleep but I want the entire story in the morning."I said.

"Of course darling."Edward said, handing over Rebeka.

I slowly slid out of bed and began to walk to the door when I heard Edward calling my name.

"Zillah, should you be going out there?"He asked.

"Go to sleep."I cried.

"Should you?"He persisted.

"I haven't been outside for over a week. I need fresh air."I said, pushing out into the dull early morning light. I was surprised to see Father coming through the garden gate.

"Good morning Zillah! Shouldn't you be in bed?"He greeted.

"I've been in bed for over a week, I need air."I repeated.

"And this is your child."He said.

"Father, this is your grandchild, Rebeka."I said.

"From the Bible or from Hebrew?"He asked.

"From Hebrew. It means to bind."I said.

"Lovely, may I accompany you on your walk?"He asked.

I nodded and Father took my elbow. We walked in silence, Father on my right with Rebeka on my left hip. We walked for some time before Father led me and the now sleeping Rebeka back inside. I laid her in her crib, and turned to see Father's expression at the sleeping Edward.

"I see you found him."He managed.

"Actually he found me. I woke up to him there."I explained.

"Want me to move him to the guest room?"Father asked.

"No, he's a gentleman."I said, crawling back under the warm covers.

"Okay, good night Zillah."Father said.

"Good night."I replied sleepily.
