Chapter 33- Edward
The dinner was exquisite. The conversation was polite, but it was good to be in the company of other... Sane people. We were sitting after dessert had been finished when a knock sounded at the door. Paige looked to Chandler with a questioning look.
"Are you expecting someone?"
"No."Came his reply as he stood.
Zillah looked between her mother and I, her confusion and fear plain on her face. A few moments later Chandler returned with the governor, and several soldiers behind him.
"Lady Zillah Taffton you are under arrest for piracy, and Lord Edward Dubois you are under arrest for harboring a fugitive."The governor said. "Take them away."
A large soldier advanced towards Zillah, while her parents remained out of his way. I started to aid her, but found I had my own soldier to deal with. Within moments both Zillah and I had been shackled and led out of the house shamefully. We were loaded into a cart, and began the slow journey to the prison. Zillah was silent the entire way there, leaving me with my own thoughts. Once we arrived Zillah and I were split up. I was shoved none too gently into one cell with Zillah's cell on the other side, and down to my right four. My cell was bare. That was the only way to describe the hole I had been thrown in. There wasn't a cot, or even something that resembled one. It was empty but the rats and me. I sat down on the cold stone floor, honestly not caring if the rats would get me. It had been my stupid idea to come back to Port Royal, and it was going to cost Zillah and me our lives. Not to mention that of her unborn child. I lay back, with my head on my arms and closed my eyes, hoping to find a way out of my mess.

Somehow I knew it was not Father's fault for the King's men finding Edward and me. I knew it was bound to happen, I was just praying Father would get a chance to explain before I was arrested. It had already been two months since Edward and I had been arrested. My settings were very uncomfortable. My cell was empty. It was dark, but I had a feeling I was the only human. I couldn't speak for the rats. In the darkness I found a stone bench built into the cold thick stone walls. I gratefully collapsed onto it, feeling very tired. I longed for my parents, or even a warm bed to curl up in. I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes there were squares of light seeping through the cracks they called windows. I sat up and rubbed my stiff neck, and soothe my parched throat. I needed water, but I had the impression I wouldn't get very much very soon.
"Hey sweetie."A husky voice said.
I raised my head to see it came from the guard standing outside my cell.
"You sure are perdy."He cooed, reminding me of Aaron.
I was speechless as to what to say.
"Yes, I'm sure you would keep a bed very warm."He purred, sounding slightly more like Aaron.
"If you could get her there."Edward called, sounding close.
"Oh I'm sure I could."The guard said, reaching for me. Luckily I was out of his reach.
"Oh Edward, what are you doing?"I prayed silently.
"With help perhaps!"Edward chuckled, only angering the guard.
I stood back as the guard left. I heard the sound of keys clanking, and then the sound of a cell door open. The guard returned, and shoved Edward into the cell across from mine.
